    HOT Worst cashier ever grrrrr!!!

This is the email I am sending into Publix Customer Relations since no one works on saturday to hear me complain!!!

Today I had the worst expierence I have had when shopping in your stores.Your slogan "Shopping is a Pleasure" was farthest from the truth.I am on a very fixed income and I try to save as much money as I can to feed my family.Today I purchased several of your buy one get one free items some of which I had coupons for to save more money.Well the cashier was unpleasant from the start! First I asked if she would like me to put each coupon with each item or would she just like them all together.Thats when she grabbed them from me.Then she says "you can't use this one, it is one coupon per purchase" and is very rude in her tone.I tell her "yes and I am purchasing 4 of those items so I should be able to use 4 seperate coupons, one for each item I am purchasing".She gets nasty and starts argueing saying thats not what she was told. She continues handing me back 4 to 5 more coupons even though I am purchasing the items. For instance your Barilla sauce on sale BOGO and I have 1 coupon for $1.00 off 2.Ok but I am buying 6 jars and using 3 coupons."NO NO NO, you can't do that" she states and mean about it. I ask to see the manager. The assistant manager comes over and I explain to her what the problem is and she tells the cashier that I am right which justs infuriates the cashier even more. The cashier argues with the assistant manager saying "WELL THAT'S NOT WHAT THEY TOLD ME". The assistant manager walks away and this cashier says " Well I better not get in trouble for this!" and "I guess everyone can do just as they damn well please" shaking her head the entire time at me. I told her I was sorry she got so upset but I have never had this problem before. She continues to be rude to me and my best friend(visiting from Georgia) who is behind me is in shock at how she is being so nasty. My best friend says to the cashier that she shops at Publix in Georgia and they double coupons and that she has been a cashier herself and each store has different policies. Then she starts being nasty to her. She says "I am so sick of these managers, one says one thing and then another changes it and it makes us cashiers look stupid" this is in a very confrontational tone. I finish with my transaction and walk to the door where the assistant manager is standing and I told her thank you for straightening that out but I was very upset at how I was being treated by the cashier and also my best friend who at this time is checking out and she is being nasty to her also. If she has a problem with management ,then she needs to speak to them and not take it out on the customer. I have worked in the hospitality and grocery store business for years and what happened today was just uncalled for. My best friend who is one of the nicest people in the world was really offended at how she spoke to her. What is really ashame is that the next 10 customers that come through her line will probably have to deal with her attitude as well. I doubt I will shop at Publix after today! I may need to save money and want the deals but I am a customer and she wouldn't have a job if it weren't for customers. To treat people the way she treated me shaking her head and making all her rude comments was not a pleasure at all. I am still upset an hour later. The cashiers name is Karyl. Someone might want to train her in customer service before you loose more customers like myself! My best friend Janet who also witnessed this entire ordeal can be contacted at (xxx) xxx-xxxx. Janet even told the cashier that she didn't understand why she was so upset when a manager did in fact say it was ok for me to use my coupons. Janet also had coupons for her items and got the same nasty dissposition from this woman. I'm sorry but you DO NOT belittle people and make them feel uncomfortable in this way.I will never go back to that store as to make sure I never have to deal with that horrable B---H AGAIN!!! What a way to ruin someone's day.

I never have a problem with the younger cashiers but some of the older ones (not to offend anyone) are just so set in their ways that and when you prove them wrong it's like starting a war. This was so unpleasant not only for me but my friend as well.
    THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS,THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS!!!
    We will see what happens.

Bummer. I'm sorry you had that experience. My Publix has me spoiled. That store really is a pleasure to shop and everyone there (except the Poodle mullet lady; everyone knows to beware the Poodle mullet lady) has always been super nice. It's probably the most coupon friendly store I've ever been in.

I did shop another Publix an hour away for the first time a few weeks ago and it was like total culture shock. Not so pleasant. The cashier was clueless and I ended up dealing with a very unpleasant managerial type. They didn't understand the wording on a coupon and instead of trying to figure it out, they just started spouting off one bogus reason after another why it wouldn't work. Boo.

I love my Publix. I think I'm going to write a letter of appreciation for how awesome my store is. It's a couponers paradise as far as being coupon friendly goes. I sure wish they doubled coupons like other stores in GA, though. Sigh.

I wish you resolution. Just a bit of unsolicited and hopefully not inappropriate advice, but I'd break it up into paragraphs since run-on text can be very hard to read, and maybe avoid the name-calling at the bottom even though it is probably totally deserved. Good luck.

It just seams that there is no such thing as costomer service any more. Now a days you would think that they would be on there employees about it when everbody is hurting for business.

unfortunately even if she breaks it up into paragraphs the format of the complaint section of their website puts it right back into one long one....

*Maybe* go back thru and edit that when you've cooled down a bit It sounds incredibly frustrating. Maybe she's a relation to the CS lady at my Walmart? I understand employees' confusion but there's never a reason for a nasty tone, attitude, or being just plain rude! Unfortunately I think it may get worse, seems like our whole country has got its undies bunched

I haven't found rude cashiers to be a young/old issue and wonder if you've really found that to be the case?

I am sorry you had a cashier who obviously wasn't trained for customer service. I have read and re-read your letter and I would like to offer some suggestions for making it more effective.

    1. I would send the letter to the Store Manager first and see if you get resolution. I understand the Asst. Mngr was addressed, but the store manager should have the opportunity to no only know about the situation, but to take action. Only then if you do not see resolution would I forward to corporate Guest Relations.

    2. Please leave out the last comment with the obscenity. Seriously, it is not only unnecessary, but it gives an impression that may cause them to take your letter seriously. I'm not sure exactly what you would like to happen with this cashier, but you want to address the situation in a manner that points out the issues specifically. When you close a letter with remarks like this, the last thoughts will be of you, not the issues that need correcting.

I wish you luck and let us know if they give a response.

I meant to say, they may not take your letter seriously

    - for some reason I couldn't go back and edit the post though.

Definitely edit your letter once you calm down. Remove any name-calling on your part, fix a couple of grammar errors, and reword it to flow better. You will get a more positive response if your letter sounds like a letter instead of a conversation.

And I second sending it to the Store Manager first, then further if need be.

It stinks when you get a cashier like that - I have one particular who acted that way and I am working on a transaction with courtesy coupons from the mfgs and frees and such, and I am heading for her line so I can mess with her. The store manager gave me his personal number in case I have any more problems, and I have the corporate policy to bring with me. heh-heh-heh.
