Default Today Has Just Been AWFUL...

Okay, this is sorta long, just a head's up. And part Pity Party, too, so bear with me.

Okay, today was supposed to be the start of an alright week. My first unemployment check was due in ( If some of you remember, I was laid off a month ago.) I STILL haven't received my first unemployment check. That is partially my fault as I messed something up, but I went in last week and they said that I should receive it today. Well, no dice as it didn't come in today's mail. Last time I went last week, I had to wait FIVE AND A HALF HOURS to speak with someone. Well, that was all cleared up and we were supposed to be ready to go. Didn't happen.

Well, THEN, today, the guy who was supposed to be buying my old car ( selling it for a VERY reasonable $175 on craigslist ) didn't show up. He was supposed to be there at 11 AM. I called him at 11:30 AM and he didn't answer the phone, so I left him a message on his cell stating who I was and that I'd be there until 11:45 am and then I was going home. He called right back and said that they'd had a power outage, and that he woke up only an hour ago and that he wasn't going to make it right then. Then he started saying that he'd rather do it later. He started also asking if my father was home right then because he needed access to electricity ( didn't say why. ) He absolutely REFUSED to give me a set time as to when he wanted to come get the car. It was VERY weird. I said okay, just call me when you want to come pick it up. ( PS: Car is parked and doesn't go into gear in front of my Dad's house. He was going to work on it and then we came to the conclusion that he wasn't going to be able to fix it. Not that it CANT be fixed he just didn't want to go through the hassle of replacing the transmission.)

Well, I went home, and around 3:00 pm I called him back and asked the guy buying the car back to see if he could give me a time because I wasn't going to keep driving back and forth. By the way, he haggled me down from 300 to $175. HE did, not me. HE also stated that he'd be there at 11 AM today. Anyway, I told him that if he couldn't give me a time as to when he would be around that I was going to let the car go to someone else. He said to me, with TOTAL rudeness in his voice " Well, I can be there in half an hour if I can pay $150 for the car." I said " NO, I can't let it go for that much. ( To be honest, I would have accepted $150 if he had showed up or at least CALLED ME.. But as he did neither, I wasted gas driving the 20 miles from where I lived to my dad's house, wasted an hour and half of my time already... I wasn't about to let it go for so little when he'd already punished me.)He said " But you're going to sell it to a junk yard if I don't get it....they'll only give you $75 dollars for it. " To which I retorted " The one I called offered $125 and to tow it away for free." He said " Oh, you'll take $50 dollars less from them but not me?" I yelled " YEAH! AT LEAST THEY ARE DEPENDABLE!" and hung up on him.

So all in all: I can't believe some people. Every time I've EVER bought anything off Craigslist, I always call to let them know I'm on the way ( seriously. I travelled 100 someodd miles to get a $50 freezer. I was 10 minutes late as to when I said I'd be there. I ALSO travelled over 200 miles to get the car I'm driving now. I was an hour early showing up for the meeting with that guy.)

But yes, I can't believe the freaking brashness of some people. All I ask is to be called if you're not showing up. I don't have time ( or money) to run all over God's creation. As for unemployment, guess I'll have to deal with that tomorrow. AGAIN. Another 5 hours out the window.

Okay, this part cracks me up.

He doesn't sound like someone you would want to deal with. Try to find a teenager who needs a car. I have about three sisters right now who would bend over backwards to get a car that cheap!

As far as unemployment, why don't you have the money put directly in to your account? Is that an option? Is there a phone line for you to call as opposed to going to an office to sit and wait all day?

Sorry for your troubles. I completely know where you are coming from with unemployment. I have my own issues with them.

I wish we had direct Deposit. Here in Backwoods, KY, we don't have direct deposit for Unemployment, which is just BIZARRE being that we were one of the first states to adopt the card method for Food Stamps!

As for calling them, they don't even have a phone in their office. It's just an automated IVR. Crazy, I know.

Wanna know what the guy said when I went last time? He handed me my number in line and said " They'll call that number....well... EVENTUALLY they'll call that number!" There were 30 people ahead of me.

Again, sorry for the complaints everyone, but today has been ROUGH.

I had the same issue selling my car last week. I had several buyers interested. I answered all questions 110% honestly, took pictures twice for one, and finally accepted an offer for $400 (3490 kbb value, 2500 estimated work from mechanic including labor). Buyer was 2 hours late, spoke broken English, so I had to give directions to his girlfriend which could have contributed to being late since he lives 45mins away and then threw a fit about "undisclosed problems" when I listed most of the major issues such as unknown electrical problems. He tried to offer $150 when my mechanic offered $100 to scrap it for me. I got him back up to $250 but it was a serious pain. I mean I spent tons of time e-mailing back and forth with one couple who asked everything but the dimensions of the floor mats and he asked none but complained when every detail wasn't listed. Doofus.

My mechanic offered to do awful things to it between the sale and when he came back to pick it up before nightfall for us though. I respectfully declined.

One caveat: if you are getting a multi-car discount on your insurance and its paid for some time (especially if you have the parked package for way cheaper) don't cancel the policy til you get another car. It could cost you more to cancel than just let it linger on.

I thought all unemployment was basically the same state to state. In IL, they dont issue checks at all any more as far as I know. You can either have it done direct deposit or they will issue you a debit card and you can have the money put on there. Saves them a lot of money on printing and mailing checks and you get your money alot faster. Maybe KY will follow eventually so your money will get there faster :)

Ugh, Craigslist... I totally feel your frustration. It took DH and I two months to sell our fishtank and we had to sell it for less than 50% of it's value. People on Craigslist are often unreliable. We had a total of 6 different people who said they wanted the tank, and then didn't show up or call. Someone finally came and got it, but it was a big hassle.

I know your frustration with Unemployment. Last time I was on it (8 years ago), I lived in IL. They were great there! I phoned in my questionnaire and they sent me a check.

Now I live in California, right next to Silicon Valley, so you would think they would be progressive here. No way. I have to mail my questionnaire each week (no computer or telephone option) and they mail the check, no direct deposit option. With the budget crisis here they are giving out IOUs for tax refunds, etc. Thank goodness that they are not issuing IOUs to the unemployed!!

I mail my questionaiire every other Sunday, or Monday morning, and the check usually comes on Friday or Saturday. If I were you, I would wait a day or two (if you can) instead of waiting in line again for 5+ hours. On the other hand, some people were waiting months for their first check here, so you're probably smart to keep on them.

BTW, our offices have phone numbers, but nobody answers them! It's been on the news many times where people will be on hold for hours to finally be hung up on with no one answering. In this day and age of computers, why can't they make it easier for all of us (their staff included)?

hubby got unemployment a couple years ago, they direct deposited it and didn't let us know...it was like a week and a half before i knew it was there.

as for the car, stick to your guns. if he won't pay what you want, relist it (craigslist, thrify nickel, iwanna...theres several free places to list it). there is always someone who will pay what you want for it. he sounds like someone that will try to rip you off big time.

hope today is better for you!!!

Welp, today didn't help things, really. Well it DID, but I can't guarantee that it did. Here's what happened.

After waiting an hour and a half, ( which isn't bad in comparison to last time ) I get called back, and the lady is taking a look at my claim. They put a stop on my checks. The guy that I waited five and a half HOURS for didn't submit my paperwork from last time to clear all of this up! He ALSO didn't note on my claim that he had worked on it, which is state law! WTF! So yes, I made sure she submitted the paperwork to the people it belonged too. I'm just appalled this happened. Five and half hours and guy didn't even do his freakin job. If he doesn't wanna do it, I'll do it happily!

    Ugh.
