HOT Humiliated for 20 minutes at walmart today...

NOW THEY ARE GONNA GET IT!

I went to Walmart this afternoon with my husband to look at landscaping stuff and decided to go in the store and use up a couple things I had coupons for.

I am going to make this story short and to the point:
Go to checkout with a big bag of 20# dog food (no coupon), 12 mighty dogs in the can (had free coupons), 5 Marie Callenders Pasta al dente dinners ($1.00 coupons), 10 imotions by airwick ($4.00 coupons) because my basement flooded a while back and it still smells damp, fish food (no coupon) and 2 of those crystal elements (had a BOGO coupon for that).

BEFORE the cashier even rings up one thing, she calls a CSM to scrutinize my coupons, I asked her why and she said "because we have to make sure we will get re-imbursed for those coupons" May as well accuse me of coupon fraud right there.

She starts ringing up the order while a CSM and ANOTHER walmart cashier comes over and grabs my coupons and goes into an office with them.

I am standing there looking like a total ******* to every customer in the store for about 10 minutes while I am chatting with the cashier asking her why she had to call a CSM before she even tried to use one of my coupons, and what the heck is taking them so long.

None of these were IP coupons, and I am sure everyone of you have the exact same coupons.

After 10 minutes, the CSM comes back and says "we only allow one coupon per purchase". I looked at her and said "yeah, thats what I have her, I have one item purchased for each coupon you have in your hand".

She then says she has to call a manager to get approval to do an over-ring.

Bull****, she is thinking I have fraudulent coupons because I have multiples and I know it.

So another 5 minutes goes by, she has already given the dog food coupons and the crystal elements coupon back to the cashier. The cashier has already written the price on them. BUT, the CSM takes off with the $4.00 imotions coupons.

CSM and another walmart employee disappear again. I am standing there looking like a total fool, and now everyone in the store is watching this going on. I am trying to keep my cool as best as I can. I told the cashier there is nothing wrong with the way I intended to use the coupons or the coupons themselves, and she says "well we just want to make sure we get paid on them". AGAIN insinuating I am using bad coupons.

Now I am getting pissed, and I told the girl I have shopped in this store as long as it has been here, and have NEVER been hassled the way I am being hassled right now. I tell her to call a manager over, I want to talk to one.

She tells me thats what the CSM is waiting for, a manager to approve my coupons.

After about another 5 minutes a very young looking ass't manager comes over with my coupons and says, "one per purchase". I told him, thats what this is, he says, "no, one per purchase through this line. If you want to use more than one, you can go through each cashier with one coupon, and pointing and yelling in a very loud voice, yells, STARTING WITH THAT CASHIER, AND THAT ONE, AND THAT ONE, AND THAT ONE AND THAT ONE".
But you're not going to use more than one in this line!

I also and not going to get into the race or nationality of this ass't manager, but I could tell he did not like white females just by his attitude and the way he was sneering at me.

I asked him if he knew his coupon policy, and he said "YES, AND LIKE I SAID YOU CAN GO TO THAT ONE, AND THAT ONE, AND THAT ONE AND THAT ONE and on and on."

I asked him if he knew what he was that was going to do to his cashiers, if he refused to take multiple coupons for multiple items purchased, I explained that the coupon said one per purchase, I purchased the required number of items for each coupon.

He again yells at me very loudly, "IT AIN'T GONNA DO NOTHING TO MY CASHIERS, YOU CAN MAKE THE MULTIPLE TRIPS THROUGH THE CASHIERS, STARTING WITH THAT ONE (again pointing to the other end of the store) AND THAT ONE AND THAT ONE, you get the picture.

I looked at the cashier and told her to give me back my coupons, void the whole transaction and I would not spend another dime in that walmart, and by the way, thank you for ruining my coupons by writing on them.

20 minutes later I walked out, totally humiliated and got in the car and called walmart customer service number. I told the lady how extremely rude the as't manager was and how I was treated like a thief at the check out. Atleast 30 other people checked out through other cashiers and watched the whole thing going on. I have NEVER beed treated so shabily and rudely in my life, not to mention being forced to stand there for 20 minutes and be humiliated like that. The CS lady said I would get a call back in a couple days.

I should call Inside Edition and report that Walmart.

I am thinking about starting a class action suit against walmart for discriminating against coupon shoppers. Enough is enough.

I told him I was not trying to cheat Walmart, steal from them or misuse coupons, I was entitled LEGALLY to purchase multiple items with multiple coupons without being discriminated against.

It's Walmart. It doesn't surprise me in the least. I would have taken my coupons and walked out long before it got to the point that you did.

I think that threatening class action lawsuits and calling Inside Edition is way over the top.

I would save my energy and take my business elsewhere. Problem solved.

I haven't been to a Walmart in 2 months, even though that is the closest store to my home. The customer service managers go way out of their way to treat you like a criminal. It's like they have a Mantra, "Just dare to use more than one coupon today lady!"
So sorry you had it happen to you.

you seemed to have gotten p'd early on...they said they were just trying to make sure they could get re-imbursed, maybe they have had a lot of problems with coupons lately and were worried when you had so many.
If you keep your cool you might get farther, or just gather your coupons and leave.
I hope you have other places you can shop that won't give you such a hassle

Funny how they wouldn't have done one thing to you if you would have stole the items!! Not allowed! KWIM... I'm so sorry this happened. Maybe we need some kind of lobby in Washington for fair treatment of couponers!! LOL

You can only be "humiliated" if you allow yourself to be. No one said your coupons were fakes, no one accused you of anything. They acted terribly and stupidly, but that's on them, not you. Don't let things like this get free rent in your head. Take your business elsewhere and don't take things like this so personally.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Even if you wanted to leave sooner, you couldn't without sacrificing the coupons they ran off with. I would have definitely called corporate to report such rude behavior. There was no need for him to raise his voice at all. tsk tsk seems to me like he wasn't well-informed on the policy during his training. Sadly this happens in many stores. I'm sorry you were a victim of his ignorance.

I definately want to know the results you get from upper management. I just don't understand why everybody has to be so rude to couponers-I'm getting really tired of the hassles we are given.

I think that's a nonsense concept. It's just another form of victim blaming. If it's taking that long to check out due to her payment method (coupons) then there is a clear implication that she may be trying to do something wrong.

Sorry to hear what you had to endure, OP! Although I have never had an experience like yours (or one even similar!), your story just reinforces my decision not to shop at Walmart with or without coupons.......I haven't stepped into that store in years! You may have to work a little harder at it, but there are equally good, if not better deals to be had at other stores!

    Keep us updated!
