Default Health Care Reform or Government Payday for Insurance Companies?

I turned on C-Span and watched a part of the Senate Hearing on Health Care Overhaul. I had to turn it off because it was just getting me angry. All the people on the panel were in some way related to the insurance industry. I had to turn it off when one of the panelists was discussing what companies wanted. What about what people want? Not one single person on that panel who had any other alternative ideas than insurance coverage. You can watch it on the C-Span site.

Here is an alternative view of the health care crisis.

This is such a hot button topic for me..........I'm SO pro single payer system because I do think health care should be a right and not a privilege .......Thanks for the PNHP link

I'm really NOT surprised at all about them NOT asking what the people want.......we were forgotten long ago. They have health care coverage.......they don't understand, and since it doesn't affect them directly.........why should they care.

:shrug7:The one thing I really can't get is why the heck businesses are not on board with a single payer plan. It doesn't make sense with the claim that benefits cost more than salary. You would think that they would like not having to worry about health care benefits. It makes you wonder if what businesses are paying are a lot less than they are saying. Look at how high some COBRA payments are.

The other thing I can't understand is why would you stick with the people who messed up the health care system in the first place.

It might be because they fear the government will "pay" for it with increased payroll and other business taxes that they will be responsible for.

If you also take the "benefit" away from the employer offering it, it might make it tougher to attract high-quality staff. The employer would have to increase the salary offering or other benefit offerings thereby decreasing the profit margin. And profits are why a business exists.

I'm under the impression that if we have socialized medicine then the health insurance companies will no longer be needed. Am I correct?

    Nope. Ur not really correct.

Those who need insurance, can get a gov't subsidized plan. Those who have it, can keep their private plan. 9/10 times, you will get better choice, care, and options with the private plan. But at least everyone else will have SOME KIND OF CHOICE!

Nothing concrete is even really in the works yet. But it is the general idea and plan. Hopefully the ball will be rolling soon.
