I will agree that people SHOULD rally together for a cause. My mom started taking me to DC for large protests when I was like 5, and we were active in a lot of local ones.
It is a natural high, and make you feel like you can really accomplish what you believe in!
Now...that being said... This whole "Tea Party" thing? Funny and slightly insulting to those who participated in the original BTP.
ANYONE who understands history, or took 5 minutes to google the BTP, realize that the events yesterday, and the one in 1773... really didn't have a whole lot to do with each other.
In fact, considering the last 200+ years of history of the USA, it was downright wrong.
THe original BTP protested, in a nutshell, "Taxation without representation". HELLO PEOPLE. We ARE represented.
We all have the right to vote, which they did NOT have in 1773. We ALL benefit from the taxes we pay (military, police depts, fire dept, roads, public schools, etc...) Many of which were not available in 1773.
In 1773, this country was under the rule of Britain. Colonists had very little say in what went on, where there money went, etc...
Now, we have fought for our freedoms, a civil war, and 2 world wars. There is NO COMPARISON. NONE.
We all voted (or should have). We knew what we were getting into, and this country picked a leader. We picked representatives.
If you don't like what they are doing, FINE. That is OK. Vote them out next time.
Have Bailout Protests. Protest outside the white house!
Just don't compare yourselves to the freedomless men who participated in the cold in 1773. It makes those who want to look ignorant of history, and the REAL struggles America had when starting out.
