Default Arrrgh! Clean spot on the living room floor!

OK, I know there will be people that will think this is funny. There may even be a day when I think so too, but today is not the day. I work from home so I'm on a conference call for an hour. Dh runs his own business and works from home a few feet away from me. Jenny (age 3) is playing in the living room. I know she's going in and out to the backyard, but that's ok.

Buddy, (120lb of Lab) is in his crate in the living room. As my call is winding down and I'm about to get on the next call, I hear Buddy whimpering. Typically this means that Jenny is bringing his dog food cans in to play with in her play kitchen and he's looking for some lunch. Whimpering continues for some time so I ask dh to go check what's up while I wait for the next call to start. And then the yelling begins.

Turns out, Jenny took the hose and sprayed half my living room with a standing half inch of water. Buddy's crate has a half inch in the bottom (he's the only lab in the world that HATES water, hence the whimpering). Fortunately, she didn't get the TV, any electrical sockets or the couch. Over a dozen towels later, I have one very clean Pergo floor. Thank God we don't still have that (thick) ugly, navy blue rug that was here when we moved in! Fortunately, the person that called my next conference call flaked out and I was able to drop off and mop up water while dh put Jenny in the tub (she was of course also soaked). ARRRRRGH.

Mental note: Must send Buddy to Lassie school so that he can say "Jenny's got the hose! Timmy's in the well!"

That sounds like something my youngest DS would do. I would have flipped. :hectic1: But I am sure when your child is older it will become a funny story you won't let her live down.

i hope you NEVER think this is funny. I hope you beat yourself up tonight on the fact that your child and dog could be DEAD right now.by the grace of whatever you believe in they are not electrocuted are they? you say "I know she's going in and out to the backyard, but that's ok." no it was NOT ok. she was able to put that much water in the living room and that means you were not paying one whit of attention to what she was doing for QUITE SOME TIME.

i never never find neglecting a child funny. not at all.

Actually, she managed to do this in just a minute or so. She had the hose on full force and aimed it inside the sliding glass door.

You want to call me neglectful, please, feel free. Clearly from your many posts on here you're the parent of all parents so I'll bow down to your wisdom on such topics.

has nothing to do with ANYTHING other than the facts. you left a 3 year old alone with NO supervision long enough to put that much water on your living room floor. by your own words you neglected her. she could be DEAD right now. maybe you need to reflect on THAT rather than being ONLINE right now.

I don't post much... but this seems like quite the stretch... I have 3 children all of whom are well cared for... But I can not watch them 24/7 and never miss a minute... thats just not possible... If it were, all us perfect parents would have kids that have never had broken bones, owies, or scrapped knees.

My kids have done tons of things like this, not because they were "neglected" but because they are kids and get into things. Those little buggers are quick and resourceful. I think attacking OP like that is a little much.

OP thanks for the laugh. I have had a ton of things happen with my kids like that where I want to scream, but someday you will laugh and it will be a great memory!

hmmm 2 parents both too busy to pay attention to what a 3 year old is doing long enough to get that much water on the living room floor and could also have darn well electrocuted herself and the dog? nope sorry no stretch here. this isnt an attack. it is a darn wake up call. maybe they should not BOTH be working at the same time? or put up baby gates to keep her within site? but obviously the idea of "I know she's going in and out to the backyard, but that's ok." is not really working is it?

i dont play tiddly winks with people and tap dance around things. i am not going to sit here and say ahhhhh how sweet and cute, how funny. NO its NOT funny. the child could be DEAD right now. would you still think it was cute and funny then?
