If you really need to feed your family...ABSOLUTELY...if not then no!
Too many people do abuse the system but so many others truly need the help....
I too, was wondering, what, how did i miss this thread, then i saw 2009!Your family pays taxes.
Taxes help pay for the WIC program, and Government paychecks, too.
This would not be a handout.
I decided to answer this another way, if you qualify.. you're not making that much.. so the ? is.. how much emergency savings do you have set aside? and i mean CASH.. not food/ hb.. pure CASH~
Would you be ok for a year.. would your kids..
That'd be my answer.
My opinion is this...
If anyone NEEDS it, then USE it. If you don't NEED it & would rather drain any other resources, then by all means DO IT.
If you think you're too good for it, then that's on you. If you don't feel comfortable, then fine.
It's all up to YOU what you do because it's YOUR choice ;)
I just noticed this thread and it caught my attention because both of my children were on WIC when they were infants. Lets face it formula is expensive. If you qualify for WIC lots of times it means that you don't have a high income. When you have infants do you really have the $250-$300 dollars a month to use of formula even with coupons? It is expensive. Then baby food, cereal, the cost of milk is outrageous. I spend at least $25 dollars a week on milk at $4.00 a gallon and we can go through almost a gallon of milk a day. I have kids that love milk and myself I love milk. This is a big help. I have friends that qualify for WIC but refuse to get it. A particular friend of mine once said she would NEVER get on any government assistance. Funny thing is that she is a mommy blogger and does not have a problem taking stuff from people that send her in the mail. Either new or used alot of new stuff though. She recently gave birth to twins and she received package after package of clothes, toys and even formula that was purchased for her. She is a Stay at home mom and the only source of income is her husbands job. I mean I find nothing wrong with getting government assistance like WIC if you truly need it. But please don't knock on those that do get it because they need it.

I've never been eligible for it. But I think I did look into it once when I didn't know what it was. And you have to have pretty low income to get it. So I'd say if you qualify then by all means get it!
Have a friend that just got caught by welfare dept. She told them she and husband have been separated and living apart for 2 years, not true she has been getting food stamps and Wic her 3 kids are on dads insurance but were also on Medicaid. Meanwhile husband makes over $80,000 a year. They were told they have to pay it back, but are waiting to see if there will be felony charges brought against them. I knew she was greedy but did not ever think she would do something like this. I feel sorry for her kids.
No. I don't believe you should if you don't need it.
