Chick-Fil-A Cow Beaten While In Costume - 11Alive.com | WXIA | Atlanta, GA

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (NBC) -- A Chick-fil-A employee dressed as one of those scheming, poultry-pushing cows from the fast-food chain's commercials was beaten up Thursday outside of a Fredericksburg, Virginia restaurant.
Philip Ruyts was trying to attract customers when a man started yelling at him and knocked him down.
The apparent fowl-lover fled.
At least one person went to Ruyts' aid.
The 22-year-old livestock impersonator usually works in the restaurant's kitchen but spends 10 to 15 hours a week in costume greeting customers.
Employees are at a loss to explain the unprovoked assault on the beloved mascot.
Ruyts was waving at cars at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday when he heard a car door slam just before he was tackled.
He did not get a good look at the attacker from the confines of the cow costume.
Ruyts' back is sore, but his manager, Todd Fleming, said he isn't ready to put the popular employee out to pasture.
Fleming never met anyone who disliked the cow, and customers Tuesday said they were outraged anyone would try to hurt their favorite mascot.
Investigators have few leads and are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the attack.
There could be a reward for any tip that leads to an arrest.

I just had a flash from the movie Mall Rats - Jay and Bob go after the Easter Bunny and get attacked by a bunch of little kids who are protecting the bunny. Not that it's funny that the guy got attacked, of course, it just made me think of that - wouldn't it be kind of cool if a bunch of customers had jumped on the guy: "you leave that cow alone"?!?

Okay, this is so wrong and at the same time so funny!! Yes, I know that's bad, sad and what's wrong w/this whole thing! But still, ya gotta admit, the picture of some guy just randomly jumping onto a "cow"? I've got that quote from Red (That 70's Show) in my head: Dumb @ss!

Now I caught the story of a McDonalds worker who was shot at work and than was denied workman comp for the time being. Some thug was beating on a female inside the restuarant and this young man seperated the two and push the male out the door. Next thing is the thug returns and shots the worker three times. So I guess the insurance viewpoint is to wait for the cops and let some punk do a Chris Brown.

I used to work for a Fire Department. We had a Sparky the Firedog costume and whenever we used it we had to assign a "handler" to the person in it. Otherwise, kids from 4-20 (with parents standing by doing nothing) would hit, poke, push, kick, etc. You can't move much in those things, they're very top heavy with the heads on and it is hard to get the head on and off with the furry gloves. If you fall down, you really can't get up by yourself most of the time.

Sad but true.

That's the first thing that popped in my head too. "There is no Easter bunny! Over there it's just a guy in a suit!" At least the cow-wearing guy is ok. What is wrong with people to just randomly assault people doing their jobs?
