I have never been to a more incompetent doctor's office. What would you do?

I would call and let them know and also want to know if they gave my info to anyone else when they were making a "human error." That is the lamest excuse I have ever heard. I can't beleive they didn't even appologize.

It's a definite HIPAA violation. Call this number 1-800-368-1019 and the OCR (Office of Civil Rights) will walk you through how to file a formal complaint for your part of the country.

A few weeks ago I was misdiagnosed at the doctor's. I'd decided I was done with that practice because they'd proven themselves to be inept(not just because of that). Today, I went to pick up my medical records and they had included a copy of someone else's medical record request that included all their personal info.

When I phoned about why I would not be coming back they just said "we're only human" when I mentioned that I now had access to all this patient's personal info(ssn, dob, addr....). Would you contact the other patient to let them know how awful this practice is or stay out of it? I am thinking of filing a complaint because of my experiences with this practice.

I have to say I would call that person. I wouldn't read off any of his/her info but, I would tell them that I have it in front of me, that I have no use for it. But, that they screwed up and that I have it and their answer to it when I reported it, was "We are only Human!".

If I was that person, I would want to know, so I could find a competent doctor/office.

I would want to know if someone got my records in error, I would let that other person know.
