Oh wow.
Is anyone else annoyed by the TV ads comparing it to sugar? I just shake my head. One is natural, one is chemical. Why do you think this counrty is so over weight. Places like France (I believe that is what Whoopie said) don't allow it and they don't have a national weight problem.
That is my new years goal, to buy less stuff with corn syrup and dye for the kids especailly.

I just find this incredibly sad. Baby formula has high fructose corn syrup in it. Simple things like soups, breads, condiment all have high fructose corn syrup. And it isn't the lead story on the news? In the newspapers?
It should be.
In a way it doesn't surprise me at all. I just plain flat out don't trust the government. They probably have known since day one. I have also heard about France (or do I want to say Europe) has I believe banned it. You can't buy hardly anything without it in it. I just yesterday picked up some honey at Dollar Tree thinking, hey honey for a buck. I come home and really look at it. First ingredient is HFCS!! Honey was last of the 3 ingredients. Needless to say, I'm not using it. I have seen the commercials and just think what the heck? Chemicals vs. natural. Real no brainer to me. HFCS is even in some dog/cat foods. Just really makes you wonder. But at least our "big brother" has our best interests at heart and is looking out for us, huh?

From what I have read HFCS is limited in the entire EU, not illegal. There is a quota that limits the amount of it used in products consumed there. Now what products ultimately use it in Europe, I'd need to look. I'd be interested to see if baby formula in Europe uses it. But they do have a higher use of sugar due to the limits placed on high fructose corn syrup.
I'm not sure I am on the "blame the government" train on this one. HFCS producers, yes.
I HATE that commercial! The problem is most consumers don't even realize that it is IN most products already!, as others have mentioned. :shrug7: I guess we have a choice. Be educated or NOT! I certainly have tried to eliminate most of this crap from my families consumption. I know that we still get ALOT of it though! I guess I should try harder!
Hope this makes sense.
It makes perfect sense! I had started making my own bread. One day DH wanted a loaf of something or other at the store. He bought it and as he was eating it looked at the ingredients. "High Fructose Corn Syrup?" he asked.
I told him that is one of the reasons I make it.
He hasn't asked for store bread again since.
But I still have it everywhere in the house, I know. I coupon and buy loss leaders and my DD loves yoplait and it is just everywhere. If I tried to stop it I am sure I would go just batty.
But, evidently, I need to try a LOT harder because this is just ridiculous.
And to think I thought my Yoplait Blackberry Lite was already bad for me because it has fake sugar in it...now it's also bad because it has real sugar!
I heard this morning the recall has expanded including Clif bars and some kind of granola bars from TRADER JOES.

I've been on a mission lately to eliminate HFCS from our house & this just gives me incentive to try harder. The biggest problem is that DH likes to drink soda because we haven't been able to find the tea that he likes since we started traveling. He likes the Lipton Pure leaf tea (raspberry & peach), but all I've been able to find is diet teas. YUCK!
Plus, someone gave us a gift bag full of junk foods & kool-aid drinks. Thankfully, I've trained my kids well enough that they've barely touched it, but it just made me realize how much people don't know what is in their foods & what it can do to their body.
