| Need your Help and Advice&Support Wisdom My husband and I invited a family into our home for Christmas Eve. Our kids and grandkids could not come home this year. I posted on Dec. 21st, I think or about. (Not sure of the date.) I'm am trying to figure out when on this site I posted it, to see what details I 'd written on here. Any way...,
I have been getting charges on our MasterCard Debit, this comes directly out of our Checking account, and getting emails on things we did not buy.
And emails that are from here, from HCW, to posts that I am posting to as a member, that I have no clue of what is going on and never posted too?
I am confused? We don't know what to do? I am thinking my husband and I were taken advantage of? And are a little scared of this. We wanted to help, and now what?
We tried getting our bank on the phone, but will have to wait after Holiday, but sent an email anyway, so the email will have a date at least we hope for any further charges..
My husband and I want to apologize for all the posts that were un-called for, hurtful and or mean, and for any feelings that were hurt in the process.
We are deeply hurt, and we hope that this will get resolved.
I am still trying to read and go thru all the emails.
Thank you, KC |

| Re: Need your Help and Advice&Support Wisdom Don't jump to any conclusions yet. It might not be the family you invited over for Christmas eve. It could be total strangers who hacked into your computer. You don't know yet.
In the meantime, I agree with what Krystalily said. Definitely reformat your computer after backing up any files you want to keep. Your computer may have spyware on it or be otherwise compromised.
Remember not just to reformat, but to install all new updates, especially for Internet Explorer. Microsoft issued a special security update for Internet Explorer just before Christmas, which is rare for Microsoft to do; they usually only issue updates once a month at a regular time. So, if your computer was hacked, it's possible it happened through your IE browser.
Very important too, change all your passwords. Personally, I would change the passwords both before and after reformating the computer. Re-formatting can take a while. So changing passwords before you reformat means you at least start doing something now to re-establish the security of your accounts. But in case there was spyware on your computer, changing passwords after reformatting makes sure that your new passwords aren't also compromised. Remember to follow standard password rules, i.e., mix of letters and numbers, both upper case and lower case, nothing that anybody who knows you could easily guess.
Are you sure there isn't a 24 hour number for your bank, for emergencies like this? Have you checked through all your bank-related literature to find any info of that sort? |

Also, I'd contact the authorities about this. If that family is taking advantage of your card, they should be held accountable for it. :(
Sorry this is happening to you. It's so scary! | Krystalily,
Our daughter has always taken care of the wipes and swipes... I'm afraid we can't clean the computer up, and start over. We are wishing that sometime in January they can come..?!! |

| Re: Need your Help and Advice&Support Wisdom Roboform is supposed to very secure from keylogger programs, so I guess you may be okay as far as all your different passwords. My understanding is that even if your computer is infected by a keylogger, and your Master Password stolen, the thief does not have your copy of Roboform on their computer, and therefore cannot use your saved passcards. But I am not 100% sure about that, so hopefully, someone who does know for sure, can confirm that, and you can at least not have to worry about any possible password issues. You said your daughter handles the tech aspects of your computer... Can you check with her to see what she recommends, especially as she knows your computer setup better than anybody? |
