Good post! I know it's frustrating waiting on a package, but it's good to be reminded that there's another side.
My husband is a delivery truck driver for a small freight delivery company. Here in the Pacific Northwest we have been having the winter from Hades with one snowstorm after another piling snow up, having sub arctic temps and sheets of ice on the roads. The delivery truck drivers are out literally risking their lives to get the freight picked up and delivered to their customers. I am asking as the wife on one of the drivers to please take into consideration when you are waiting for a package that:
a. the road conditions may make it hard if not impossible to get your package to you first thing in the morning
b. some of the roads at least in our area have been closed by the police and Department of Transportation
c. please keep your sidewalk, driveway and doorways as snow free and safe as you possibly can so that the guys do not get hurt or have their trucks get stuck
d. if you are expecting a package and you will not be home, please make sure you leave instructions on where to leave the package that is dry and out of the weather
e. if you do not have a place that is dry and out of the weather, please do not complain when the guys have to leave it where the snow can get it (you could even provide a tarp and that would help or a tote outside for the to put it in)
f. if you agree to be somewhere to meet the delivery guy to pick up your package (as is the case with some small business owners that I know of) please be on time or at least call if you are running late
g. make sure to thank the drivers as they are out working in this awful weather and putting in some very long hours on dangerous roads
Thank you! :)

Very reasonable request; everyone should definitely make sure that they vent their frustration properly, and not take it out on the delivery men.
Nice post! My hubby is a water delivery guy (those 40lb bottles of water that go on water coolers) and he talks about this all the time. Especially the part about keeping your driveway/steps/walkways free of snow and ice. If he's carrying two giant bottles, and falls, he has no way to catch himself!
And definitely call if you agree to accept your delivery at a certain time, and find that you can't make it. He almost lost an account last week because the business complained that they weren't getting their water, even though EVERY TIME he goes (at various times according to the schedule they requested) no one is there. Thankfully, someone else was able to run them their water when they called.
Great post. I think delivery men should be held accountable when they screw up (i.e. dropping off tags without ringing the persons door bell or not picking up packages when the person is home).
I love my delivery man. I always say thanks because its so nice to recieve a package I didnt have to go out into the cold to get.
Thanks for the reminder!
This is nice. I don't live in a snowy area and never have. By reading this it makes me think I don't want to.

My dh drives delivery truck too, although not a UPS type truck and it's not door to door. He drives a box truck delivering motor oils to garages, auto dealers, gas stations, businesses, etc. I'd like to add his biggest complaint to your list, if I may.
When you're out driving, even if you're in a hurry, don't pull right out in front of the truck. Trucks are heavy, even when they're empty but with a full load, they take more room to come to a complete stop.
He comes home with another horror story just about every single day about some impatient driver that sees him coming yet still pulls right out.

Even though I've lived in Wisconsin all of my life (some brutal winters here!), I don't like driving in the snow, or when roads are icy. So I give a lot of credit to anyone who has to be out in those conditions for work! They definitely deserve some consideration and thanks! :)
