Re: Please be kind to your delivery truck drivers...
Oh, and I meant to add, that when I had my own home-based business, more days than not I was getting a delivery from UPS. My UPS driver treated me very well because I treated him well.... He loved cookies
He'd leave boxes in the barn or in our other vehicle if no one was home AND leave a note on the door for me.

Re: Please be kind to your delivery truck drivers...
My brother is a UPS driver so yes this is a very good post.
Also side note when I used to work for a photography company we used to get 2-8 50 pound boxes of photos EVERY day. Before I was production supervisor my boss was in charge of getting deliveries. She was never nice to him and always rude and standoffish so he would just drop the boxes in the back of the office and leave to avoid her ( I don't blame him.) When I became the production supervisor I took over that duty. I was always cordial, and joking with him. He actually was a very cool guy and because I showed him respect and was nice he would put the packages wherever I needed them that day ( which was extra nice when I pulled a muscle in my back).
Basic bottom line You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Also whenever I drive in that area and he sees me oin my car he still honks and waves!

hmsclmom, you are 100% right. and asking someone to tell the delivary man "thank you" wouldnt be out of line either :) I am amazed at people who dont say Thank you anymore. Sure the delivery man 'works' for you, but being polite makes them not dread coming to your house. :)
sbp, mine drives a oil tanker, and your right, he is constantly talking about this. Even bein someone who drives a large pickup I see it all the time, people think I can stop on a dime and pull out ( I cant by the way.... ), but when you do it to a big truck you are risking not only YOUR life, but his AND his livlihood. he can loose his licence for a stupid stunt that you pull. Its not a huge company behind the wheel, its a dad and husband, so wait till he passes, your life might not be that important, but his is.

censorship posted while I was! LOL
and is exactly right :) being a little nice goes a REALLY long way. I have always been nice and joking with all the UPS drivers out here, and have had them go out of their way to find me when I am not home. One time, Terry was driving by my great aunts house, saw my truck, stoped and left me my package! It had to be signed for and he wanted to make sure I got it! They also all know that my hubby works nights, and dont honk before noon. I have never said this to them, but they fiqured it out and are very nice about it!

If you know you're expecting a package and can't be home to accept it, but don't have anywhere weatherproof to ask it be left, you can also leave a garbage bag outside. The Fedex guy that would bring us packages would always put them inside a tied up plastic bag if it was a rainy day. He was great!!
