Bad Trader List Updates

Let me begin by saying that I really like this site and many of the people here. However something's really bothering me lately, and that is the information being sent out by HCW via the Bad Trader List Update.

I have never traded with anyone on any site, nor do I plan to. However it seems to be a terrible invasion of privacy for HCW to send out a list of bad traders to all members. These emails contain addresses (minus the street number), cities, & states for those considered bad traders. Why wouldn't it be sufficient for them just to say the members' usernames and leave it at that?

I want to think that HCW cares more about members' privacy than that, and I have written to them twice regarding this and have gotten no response.

I know this does not affect me personally but I would not want any site I am a member of divulging my location to any other member.

Just to be clear I don't see anything wrong with them letting people know who the bad traders are. But I only think they should divulge usernames and that is it.

Many people use trading sites to scam other members. This can be done over and over again by just changing their user name. By giving the user name only, it would not stop this from happening to someone else. If you traded you would understand that it is a honor system and if your end is not held up, you are going to be exposed as a bad trader.

I understand what you are saying; however I just think there has to be a better way than HCW sending out these emails with people's addresses on them. Not everyone on the internet has good intentions and if someone's address gets into the wrong hands there could be terrible consequences.

I believe they are posting the addresses because some have multiple user names with the same address.
I have been duped by almost all of the ones posted in the bad trader thread this month.
I am personally sick of it and if they want to steal from me I could really care less who has their address. It's not like any one is going to go pay them a visit. If you've traded with them you already know their address so it's no biggie.
I think they should also get a bare bottom spanking to go along with it personally.
I am out a lot of money, stamps and coupons because of these people.
Don't do the crime or you'll pay for it.

Usernames are not sufficient. People can change their usernames and keep scamming. The addresses are not available to just anyone. You have to be a member here. Traders are fully aware of the consequences of scamming members for $$, coupons, or other stuff.

These members have done nothing to deserve respect or privacy. Regular members and traders don't have their addresses thrown around.

If they don't want their home address thrown around then they should either get a PO Box, not send this information out to strangers on the internet in the first place, or NOT STEAL from people. It is not like HCW went and dug up this information. This is information that they chose to post on the internet to strangers.

Well, I'm certainly not saying these people are innocent or haven't done anything wrong. I'm not defending their actions in any way. It just seems like it would be the obligation of the website to uphold ALL members' privacy, not just the "good" members.

I think it is part of the game. When you are a trader you are aware of the rules, you break them you pay the price. No one on this site is made to be a trader those of us who choose to become one deserve to feel safe in trades and being aware of those who do not play by the rules only helps others....I feel.

Who can see the bad trader listing, and can my personal info be posted?

This list will only be viewable to registered members and include the bad traders user id and partial address. If the member has other known user id's or addresses, we will list those as well. By participating in a trade with another HCW member you agree to this information being made public on the board.

Easy Peesy, someone doesn't want their info posted in the bad trader listing, don't make bad trades. It's in the rules for trading so all liability is on the bad trader for not abiding by the rules.

I do understand what you are saying, but in order to trade you have to confirm that you have read and will abide by the rules. From the Trading Rules:

"To help protect our members HCW instituted a bad traders listing. This list will only be viewable to registered members and include the bad traders user id and partial address.
By participating in a trade with another HCW member you agree to this information being made public on the board. "

These people have agreed to this and CHOSE to trade and violate their end of the agreement. Therefore there are consiquences that they agreed to. Anyone who doesn't like this has the right to not become a trader on this board.
