And as for banning IPs as a solution, there are ways for them (scammers) to work around that if they want to, so that really doesn't do anything to protect the traders here from dealing with someone who isn't on the up and up. | I am a member of other forums as well and they won't even discuss members' accounts in any way with other members, even if they've been banned or not for breaking the rules. They are respecting the privacy of every member, not just the "good" ones as I said previously.
I do understand what most of you are getting at and do agree there need to be safeguards in place to protect members from others who are out to cheat/steal from them. I just don't think divulging their personal information to every member is the way to do it is all.
I have no issue with the way bad members are determined, or punished for that matter (being banned, etc.). My only issue is the giving out of personal information to every member. I am truly not trying to play the devil's advocate here, or defend anyone. It's the privacy issue that I am concerned about.

As far as I knew, only the members of the trading group receive that email so it's not going to everyone on the board, only to those who sign up for the trader group. I'm a member of other forums as well, and some of them give A LOT more information about bad traders than is given here. They aren't listed the second that someone reports a bad trade. The moderators will mediate and try to bring the situation to a amicable conclusion, the reporting of user name and location are a last resort. Their privacy would be very well preserved on this board if they just make good on the deal they agreed to. |

As I stated previously I have no issue with how the bad traders are determined; I am sure that is the last resort. | You are a member of the trader group, there's a flag under your name in your posts. At one time or another, you must have signed up for it.
I can really see both sides of the issue. I wouldn't want people to post my address (even without actual street address) online for even a "small" group to view. BUT, I do see how it can be beneficial in keeping down the scamming, both by alerting people to a general address of a trader, and to "scare" people into being a good trader if you don't want your personal information given out. It is not mandatory that people join the trader's forum. Those that do know the rules and know the consequences, so you are in effect agreeing to your address being posted. |
