| Re: Am I the only one who is ticked about the "school supply" lists? The point is not what the actual brand of car they are driving, but the fact that most superintendents make enough to pick nearly any vehicle made. Parents have to provide crayons for their kids at school because a big portion of the budget is going to overpay the top few in the administration.
So perhaps the superintendents could take a 10% pay cut and pay for all the pencils, crayons and notebooks the kids needs.

That would set a good example for students.
Now, as far as what they pay for with their own money, that is their own business.
Not all superintendants make big $$. Just because someone is driving a nice car doesn't mean that they are being over payed.
Maybe they saved for a long to have it, maybe their wife makes good money, maybe it is leased (cheaper than buying), maybe even it was inherited.
Don't judge a book by the cover...

So for all of the parents who said that they will not be sending in all of the supplies from the list, you're welcome! I will send in Clorox wipes to wipe down desks and doorknobs that your kid snotted all over. | Hmmm... I mean really !! Was all that called for ? Sorry I cant afford to supply the whole class. I will send in what My child needs which is what everyone said !!! Not that they wouldnt send anything.

| Re: Am I the only one who is ticked about the "school supply" lists? Okay, I don’t mind my dd school list, she’s entering 5th grade. She’s very excited because it’s a new school for her so she’s enjoying shopping for new things. We stopped by the new school today to pick up the exact list the teacher wants. Like I said I don’t mind I’ll get what the teacher needs, but… 2 bags of soft candy are on the top of the list. What? Soft candy on the top of the list? Well, my dd says it must be given out for prizes for various accomplishments. I guess, but I could think of a lot of things I would ask for before I asked for bags of candy to start off the school year.

| Re: Am I the only one who is ticked about the "school supply" lists? I don't so much mind providing pencils, pens and paper, it is the other stuff you have to provide. My kids are in high school and the freshman had to bring in 3 boxes of kleenex, 3 packages of dividers, folders, 2 5 subject notebooks as well as loose leaf paper college rule, 3 3 subject notebooks and loose leaf paper college rule, several regular spiral paper notebooks and 1 package loose leaf paper college rule. The 7th grader had to have the dividers as well 2 packages only, approximately the same amount of paper, and I had to buy the dictionary for her to take to school for her use. I guess the silliest thing I heard was a friend of mine from New York had to send toilet paper with her kids, she is in upstate New York, that was a few years back, but at this point I do feel as if you are supplying the class not just your own kid. |

| Re: Am I the only one who is ticked about the "school supply" lists? O.K., so it isn't about supplies; our teachers purchase those, we pay $25 and it covers everything for the year, including weekly reader and other stuff. But in all my years of having kids in school (every year since 1986) I have NEVER had a teacher put out a sign up sheet for parents to do her copying on a weekly basis and her filing on a weekly basis.
Just this week there was an article in the paper reporting the unintended consequence of the 7-1/2% pay raise the teachers received this year. Some now make over $50,000, and are required to file ethics forms with the state. In our area, $50,000 is a lot of money, and they want us to come do their copying and filing? They get a preparation period and student aides. Plus, do I want someone else's mom or dad filing my kid's papers? She makes good grades, but it's still no one else's business.
(In case you think we're getting off too light, my high-schooler has over $200 in fees to pay, but she pretty much gets to choose her supplies.) |

I know my community college can't allow students or volunteers to assist teachers with grading, inputting grades into the computer, or filing of graded items. |
