Default I'm fuming mad! Someone let our dogs out of our yard!

I had an absolutely horrible evening on Wednesday! I got a call from my DH when he got home from work (around 5:30, I get home at 6) that our two lab mixes were missing and that from what he could tell someone had kicked in the door to their kennel. We keep a padlock on it so the neighborhood kids won't just flip the latch to try to get in and play with them, put he said that either someone had pushed it or kicked it hard enough to where the whole latch rotated and slipped down, letting the door open (he later fixed the door back and pushed it himself to see how hard it was and he said he could barely do it so it had to be someone pretty strong).

We called the sheriff's office, they sent a deputy over who was really sorry for us but there wasn't much he could do. We had a few friends come over to spread out and help us look and I went door to door to see if the neighbors had seen them but no one had.

I was SOOO worried that they were going to be gone forever. I know they aren't loud during the day because I've already been asking around to make sure (we were keeping them in when we are home and letting them go outside and play in the kennel while we're at work).

Finally we got a call and a lady from a subdivision about 2 miles away and across a very busy highway had found them and was holding them in her fenced backyard for us! (They both had tags with my cell number on them.)

I'm so glad that we recovered them pretty quickly. I still don't feel safe leaving them out though which is sad because they like it. My boy was so confused when he just got to go out to potty this morning but then had to come back in. We are planning on getting a 6ft privacy fence as soon as possible and maybe I'll let them go out more then, when I know random mean people can't get into our yard.

Are you by any chance in Northwest IN? If not, what a weird coincidence. When I got home yesterday, there were two identical black labs running around, with only different color collars. They wouldn't come to me, but the local animal control came and got them. I'm glad your babies are OK!!

OMG ... I'm soooo sorry that happened but thank GOD your fur babies were found safe & sound. I can only imagine the worry you must of had. Can you maybe ask the police department to patrol the block for a few days just to see if anything weird is going on. You can't trust anyone these days which is sad. Maybe keep your fur babies indoors while you are at work. I don't think it's worth going through this again. Again, SO HAPPY they are safe and at home!!!!!!!!

This happened to my dog when I was out of town, and people told me in that area, she was at risk of being taken for BAIT, for fighting dogs! I just about lost my mind.

Someone found her, though, and I have a secondary number on her collar (an indestructible, can't fall off tag!). He called my Mom, she told him where I was, and the neighborhood was safe from me going door to door raising hell, lol.

Glad your furbabies made it home. I can't believe the cops won't do anything - that's trespassing and B&E!

I am in IN actually but down in southern IN just across the bridge from Louisville, KY. The police did say they would increase patrol in our area, they pretty much thought it was probably teenagers being stupid....I'm not amused. They are definately staying indoors while we're at work now. DH took them out after he got home and sat on the patio and let them play in their kennel for awhile. They won't be out there without us anymore, I don't trust people!

Oh wow, I'm so glad you got them back! We're always so worried about this with our dogs because they are so large. When we first got them, we had them out in our backyard in a kennel probably like yours when they would go outside, though they are inside dogs. We built a 6 ft fence as soon as possible after a guy doing yard work for one of our neighbors started asking questions about them (how much did they cost, are they mean, etc). Dog fighting is a big problem in our city. Our Corsos may be huge, but they are just big clumsy babies and would end up being the bait. I hate thinking about that.

I would be so ticked if someone tried that with our two rottie mixes. Since my landlord's son already kicked my eldest in the teeth I know who to look for though. And then I'd break his leg. *sly smile*

I'm so glad you got them back though, I have never been willing to leave mine outside, kennel or not, just in case someone or some wild animal came through and hurt them or tried to.
