TIPS Save Money by Price Checking RX Costs

If you are without Prescription coverage or want to cut the cost of your percentage co-pay, CALL around to your local pharmacies.

Here is an example of the CASH cost for Generic Z-Pak on 4/15/2011 in the Chicago Suburbs(prices are rounded up):

    Walgreens - $48
    Target - $30
    Meijer - $28
    Walmart - $28
Costco - $10 Check with your local Costco - My local Costco will let you get a RX filled without a membership

Thank you for the Costco pharmacy scoop rbunnymom!!!

I have a diabetic dog on human insulin & I think I've checked out every drug store, grocery store & super-store pharmacy to find the best price. I usually go where I can get a giftcard for a new prescription to at least put towards the cost of his syringes. I'm not a member of Costco but I will def be checking that out!!! Thank you!! (rep'd ya )

My dog is on a variety of medications. I go to Sam's Club to get them because they are much cheaper than the vet and local pharmacies. Like Costco, you do not have to be a member to use their pharmacy. However....if you are a member, you might want to check into getting their advantage plus card. It costs $100.00 a year, but allows you to save even more off each prescription vs. a regular membership/no membership at all. Often they have promotions going where you buy a membership and they give you a Sam's gift card. (I got a $25.00 gift card the last time I renewed my membership.) The pharmacy can give you the prices of the RX both with and without the Advantage Plus membership. That way you can do the math and figure out whether or not it would be a good deal for you.

Thanks for mentioning Sam's Club and BJ's Club. Prescriptions could be cheaper there also. At Costco, they have a FREE discount plan for Costco Members. Check with the pharmacist for a form to fill out. I was told it could save someone anywhere from $3 - $50 on the cash price of a prescription. The plan is good for Members and dependents. I don't think this plan would cut down on the dog RX costs but worth looking into for your human children.

They usually have better prices on gas too Before we moved to no mans land we've had a membership for years.

Also things like OTC like Zyrtec, Prilosec, Zantac, Pepcid..the generic versions at sam's or Costco are so much cheaper then using coupons or even getting it through your insurance usually.

We can get 360 aprx pills of Generic Zyrtec for my daughter (she can swallow pills) for aprx $15 bucks. That is a year supply for her. Nothing I can do coupon wise will beat that.

Since we no longer have a membership we give the money to my sister and she pays for it and gives it to us when we see her next.

Thanks for mentioning the over-the-counter drugs. I agree you can save lots buying those there. Oftentimes it does beat even with coupons.
