Default how to transferr RX's

I want to learn how to transferr RX's. How do you do it. Do I go to the new phramacy and tell them I filled there instead wlamart. Do I need a new rx? I want to move my BC rx to walgreens this month for the $25 gc. I pay 14.36 for my yaz after ins, is there a way to know how much it will be at walgreens? Can I pay for the rx with the gift card they are giving me. I want the free money, I can't believe I have never thought to do this before TIA!!

If your prescription is still valid and has refills left on it, all you have to do is call the pharmacy you want to transfer it to, tell them where it is (and they usually like to know the phone number of the pharmacy it's currently at) and they will take care of the rest.

If you have had WAGS fill a prescription for you before, you can call them and ask them to check on the price....really, I would think it would be the same at any pharmacy, if you have insurance and pay a co-pay for your prescriptions. Your insurance company will be able to tell you how your prescription plan works and you can look it up on their site, possibly.

You cannot use the gift card you get to pay for the prescription. If you have another GC, you can use that, but the one you get from the transfer must be used to buy other merchandise. They will ring it up on the same transaction as the prescription.

It's great, my husband did this yesterday at Kmart. He had a prescription and it only cost him $5.00 and he got the $10 gift card. We don't shop at Kmart often (only during doubles) but it was still good to have.

We did purchase a bottle of drain unclogger. It was $5.19, I almost passed out when the cashier told me the price. But we had the gift card so it came in handy, but I will never pay that much again. Just another thing for me to start stockpiling when it goes on sale. :)
Next time we will take the prescription and kmart coupon to Superfresh to get it filled because they accept competitors coupons.

Unfortunately you can't use the gift card to pay for the prescription but you can use it to buy other things in the store or just keep it for a rainy day.

You can't go wrong. I bounce all our prescriptions around each month and make out like crazy. We have like four prescriptions each month. Usually I get $25 each in GC and pay $15 in co-pay. So I make $40 each month. Crazy?? And then I also use the GCs when I can to buy things that qualify for Rebates, Register Rewards, ECB, etc., so I get double back.

On how to do it, I usually just take my empty bottle to the store where I want to transfer it and tell them I want to transfer it. They call the pharmacy where it was last filled and transfer it over the phone.

Default Re: how to transferr RX's

Dd takes Ritalin which requires a new prescription each month, they can't just do refills b/c each one has to have a Drs signature on it.

I brought the script to Kmart last month to fill and got a gift card.

I don't suppose they would consider the next month another "new prescription" would they??? Probably not, but I sure could use another gift card for the next round of doubles.

The only downside is that it *does* cost more to fill our prescriptions at Kmart pharmacy rather than our clinic pharmacy. The copays are $5 more. Still, you come out ahead on the gift card even if you have to pay more for the copay.

I have heard there are limits to how many times you can transfer a prescription. Does anyone know about this? How can you tell how many times you can transfer?

joyfulmom4, it is worth a try to ask the pharmacy if they will accept another coupon when you bring in another new prescription for ritalin even though it is the same thing you got last month. I no longer use the RX transfer game because I am too busy but I earned $120 in "profit" from doing this last year. ("profit" means gift card value minus co-pay).
Also, Joyfulmom4, you might want to ask Kmart if they are willing to price match. My local kmart is willing to price match and accept a pharmacy coupon once a month as long as it is a new/transferred prescription. They will call up the pharmacy and verify the price, so make sure the pharmacy is open when you ask kmart to price match.

Any limits on transfers are typically based on state law. In general, rxs for uncontrolled substances can be transferred as long as refills are remaining and the RX has not expired (which happens 1 year from when the dr originally prescribed it). Schedule III-V rxs can be transferred once, assuming it has a refill remaining and has not expired (which happens 6 months from the date it was prescribed). Schedule II rxs can never be transferred or refilled, a new script is needed for every fill.
