Default I can only get my RXs filled at CVS, argh this delima!!

my insurance has my RXs set up through CVS caremark. so I cant transfer presciptions and use coupons for transferred prescriptions anywhere.
the only options I have is to find coupons for new prescriptions, and that isnt going to help with the RXs we fill normally every month... any ideas :shrug7:

Did you price check you scripts? I found that some of ours are the same price even without ins. so Maybe you can transfer them and not use your ins. ?

Just and Idea.

Nurse Re: I can only get my RXs filled at CVS, argh this delima!!

I find that I can often get an rx cheaper than the insurance co-pay by going to Walmart. Often $10 for 3 months as opposed to $10 PER month at CVS. Several supermarkets and Kmart in our area also have prices similar to Walmart AND they take transfer coupons. Get your prescriptions together, sit down and start calling and asking questions. If they are equal price maybe start one at Kmart with a coupon then you can transfer it to CVS. Between my husband with heart trouble and a special needs grandchild we fill 14 scripts per month. We would not survive without the gift cards.

I would keep an eye out for other places' coupons.... this month I had to get a RX filled and I had coupons for Rite Aid transfer $25, and KMart new $10.

first I went Walgreens because I had filled RXs there in the past(precoupons) and all my info was on file, I price checked it and it was $12.... asked if they would honor the Kmart coupon for a new RX and was told no *grr*

so I went to Rite aid to price check and see if they would take the kmart coupon, I took both the Kmart and the Rite aid qs with me,....
they only wanted 8.99 for the RX (thats a pretty big difference... $3 less= 25% savings alone on the price difference).

The pharmacist said she would accept the Rite aAid coupon even though it said for a transfer only and this was a brand new script with no refill. (I was a very happy camper, LOL.) so, check your paper every week for RX coupons and take them all with you when you go to fill your script.

and as PP suggested, price checking might help even if you can't use any GC coupons.....

I have the same problem. As of January 1st dh's insurance only allows us to refill at CVS. Problem is we don't have a CVS so my only other option on my prescription that I refill is mail order. No more transfer coupons for me. Plus I know the cash price on my prescription is about $180 so no way would it be cheaper if I took it to WalMart.

Erica sounds like your rx benefits manager is Caremark. Might be worth a call to see if there are any non-CVS pharmacies in the network in your area, given that CVS apparently doesn't exist there. If there aren't, you might ask how you can obtain short-term drugs when needed within the plan rules. Could be that you will need to pay out of pocket then submit direct claims for reimbursement. If they say there's an out of network penalty, ask about an exception to that given what pharmacies are available in your area.

Yes we are with Caremark. If it is just a short-term prescription, like an antibiotic or something, I can get it filled at any of my local pharmacies, but if it is a long-term prescription, like my Nexium, I have to refill at CVS only or get it by mail. So since I have no CVS I had to switch to mail. I will still be able to use coupons on other short-term prescriptions. It's just that "new" prescription coupons are much more rare around here than "transfer" coupons. I was enjoying moving my Nexium prescription around every couple months and getting $25-30 of free stuff at Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc.
