Default Can we talk Vacuum Cleaners for a minute?

My Boyfriend, and I desperately need a new vacuum cleaner. The one we have now is nicknamed "The Beast",and there is a good reason it has that nickname.. The reasons are : Broken handle that is being held together by duct tape, cracking at bottom near wheels,it no longer locks to stand up,and the cord looks as if it may be stripping..

Now,before it got into the bad of shape I tried to get my boyfriend to buy a new one. My parents even offered to buy us one when we still lived with them to do the downstairs, and even offered to let us take it with us when we left. I tried to negotiate with my boyfriend on letting my parents get us a new vacuum, but it still came down to him being to proud to let my parents buy one..

We are now living on our own he has agreed to a new vacuum cleaner.. The only problem we have now is $$$. My question is, Does anyone know of any place we can get a good vacuum cleaner for a reasonable price?

Not sure what your $ range is....
Big Lots most of the time has reconditioned units much cheaper then full retail.
Personally, my reconditioned dyson (amazon) is the best vaccuum I've ever owned.
Hunt the internet too.
Got a Hoover steam cleaner Not reconditioned for about half of retail.

I would say that you want a bagless one first and foremost - it reduces that cost. I love my Dyson, but the are spendy. And I am going to buy a roomba this week as well. But when we've done the inexpensive, last a few years route, here's some ones (or similar models) that we've had before that have worked well. Amazon.com has free shipping on the ones I am posting for you, all of these in the $150 range or less:

HOOVER

BISSELL

Both of those brands are well reputed, and those should last a few years for you until you are ready to upgrade to something more powerful (read - expensive).

We went through a vacuum every year for the first six years we lived here in the country. (I think I kept forgetting and vacuuming up the ashes from our woodstove, which is a huge no-no.) Then, a friend moved away and left us a Dirt Devil upright. It was probably very inexpensive ($50-$75?) and it is no frills, no attachments, just the basic vacuum. It won't die. We've been using it for almost seven years now and it still works great. I've used Dyson's at two vacation homes this past year and when the Dirt Devil dies I will hold out for a Dyson. Still, if I wanted to buy an inexpensive vacuum that would run and run, I'd look at another Dirt Devil. It does use bags, but they may have a newer model that doesn't.

If you end up with a bagged model, Big Lots is THE place to buy them. Cheapest bags anywhere.

we went through a vacuum every year for over 20 years, finally 3 years ago we bough a Dyson, yes it is expensive. IT works beautifully, never loses suction. Plan on keeping it forever. Well worth the $329 invested. My son works at Best Buy so we were able to get his employee discount. Now parents can no longer get the discount.

I gotta echo the Dyson. The BEST investment I ever made on an appliance. Had mine almost a year now, and it picks up anything..cheerios-not a problem!

We also went thru a vacuum once a year till this one. 4 kids, which 3 of them are boys...well let's just say I have to vacuum several times a day LOL

If you can possibly swing it, I would hold out for a Dyson. I got mine at Sam's club for $329 and it came with like 10 attachments and a 20 ft retractable hose. I think it's a DC17 but I'm not positive LOL it's still way early here;o)

I have heard on other sites I visit that Dyson is the one they recommend. I had several vaccumms over the years and I finally bought a Meile. It was very expensive but I love it. It came with a lifetime warrenty from the store. I bring it in every April for a check up.

I just got a Hoover Windtunnel from the Home Shopping Channel and LOVE IT :) It was around $160 - but you can do the flex pay option - the first payment included shipping which totalled all together around $55 for the 1st payment, and then 3 months of $38 :)
