has anyone ever bought building material or items from their stores? I just found out we have a local store that sells used items at a fraction of the cost...but it is not too close.

Just wondering if it might be worth my time to head out there and check it out. Some neighbors bought a repo house that needs a lot of work.

We have donated a lot to the Habitat store. What they sell is primarily donated items, sometimes they get stuff left over from building supply stores or contractors who over ordered or got the wrong size/color. Much of it is used. It is very much YMMV.

We have seen brand new windows and 1970's light fixtures. We have donated doors, fixtures, sinks, appliances, lumber, posts, railings...all taken from our house to do upgrades.

that is great news to know. I didn't figure they would have too much new stuff. Used is fine and long as it is still in good condition.

My husband and I have spent hours shopping at the one near us! We've gotten tile for our bathroom (brand new...just not full boxes), cans of paint for trim (you can't be picky about the color, but we got some nice ones!), and a "new" door for our hall closet. Our house was built in the early 50's (by hand by the previous owner), so we've been able to find good stuff! We also found a Lane coffee table for $5!!

You have to be prepared to spend some time, looking through lots of stuff. The one near us isn't the cleanest place, so wear old clothes!!

I bought enough woof to redo my floors a few years back when our house flooded... As bee said YMMV.. They are very cheap... but some is useed.. and also..be sure to get all that you need in the first trip because more than likley they won't have it if you go back...and they ARE VERY cheap..at least here . and it was definatly worth the 45 min, drive to get there...

I forgot to mention that! I've seen lots of new stuff there....cabinets, counter tops, faucets, shower doors, and even light fixtures. Sometimes builders buy too much for the houses they're building (or the buyer changes their mind about which fixtures, etc. they want), and they donate the unused things to Habitat for Humanity. (My BIL volunteered at the store near us for a while).

My sister lovvveees the one near her! Her and her husband have gotten lots of great deals on used fixtures. Items for sale will very though - obviously! And so will the prices. We live in a HCOL area and items are marked higher at our store compare to the prices near my sister.

My sister is remodeling and She went and got Hardwood flooring for less than what she could get it anywhere. It is beautiful too.

We have gotten several new solid wood interior doors and exterior doors also for very good prices. We recently got new windows for my sons house, again at great prices.

We always check ours first before buying at regular retail. Ours also keeps a list you can sign up for things you are looking for and they will call you if they get any in.
