Default House Freshener

Ok...my house just has a smell, not bad just a smell I don't like. I LOVE my candles, but once they are blown out, no more sweet smelling! We have a baby and a dog so they aren't helping the smell either.

What do you all use to freshen up the house on a regular basis. How do you keep your house smelling nice all the time?

You could make a room freshner with essential oils. Usually just distilled water and 10-15 drops of essential oils will do the trick and you could spray your couches with it and just spray it in the air. Since you have baby I would stick with maybe sweet orange, lemon or lavender (safe for children). You can also take an empty parmesan cheese can and put baking soda in it and 10-15 drops of essential oil and sprinkle on carpets.

Open your windows on sunshiney days, umm, I don't know what else lol

open the windows everyday for a few hours . make sure the dog is clean, as well as it's bed/// i know our old dogs bed really stunk:) carpets??? sprinkle w/ baking soda and let sit for a few hours then vac. If you have smokers in the house? there is no real way to get the smell out. but fabreeze covers smoke smell a little. as far as the baby I make sure any poopy diapers are taken right outside and put in the trash. pp ones cna do in the trash but only for a day or two as then they start to stink.

A bowl of vinegar.
Just leave it someplace. It will rid the air of any smells.
Of course, thats' for the air. Wherever the smell is coming from will continue to make the smell. This will just get it out of the air.
Works for oops smells too. Like burnt food, or cooking fish.

I bought the Lysol Nutra Air Freshmatic. I found this on sale for 5.99 and had a 5/1 coupon (of course). It's normally $12 at CVS, but I've seen it on sale at other places lately. I LOVE IT! It will automatically spray every 9, 18 or 36 min. whatever you set it for. I also have a dog and it's just nice to have a fresh smell when you come home. It's not an over powering smell, just nice and fresh. I was able to find more of these coupons on a coupon clipping site. You may look in the trading forum and see if anyone has any there too. My house didn't have a major smell either as no one could smell it but me. I just prefer this to anything else. Plus I don't have to burn a candle all day. My only warning would be to keep it out of childrens reach. I have mine on the floor in a corner so that it doesn't spray out in someones face. But since you have a small child I wouldn't recommend that. I would put it somewhere out of reach but somewhere that you don't walk straight in front of.

I live for my febreeze, lol, especially with dogs and cats running around. When one of the pets (especially the cats) has an "accident" on the carpet I use a little vinegar and it seems to take the smell away, so If it works on the cat smell It will probably help with other smells too. Then some febreeze to cover the vinegar smell, lol.

I mop everyday and dust a few times a week. I spray Febreeze a couple times a day and light candles alot. I also steam clean my carpets 1 time every week. I think I have a cleaning disorder because I am constantly cleaning and spraying my house. I hate to clean but love my nice smelling house. I think that Gold Canyon candles work wonders too. I can't afford them very often, but they are the best imo. I also found that the Vanilla Cupcake and Chocolate Mousse from Walgreen's are awesome. Every time someone walks in my house they think I just baked a delicious dessert.

Make sure that you don't have any moisture problems anywhere. Mold and mildew can not only create odors, but can be dangerous in terms of respiratory health.

We tried really hard to babyproof our house, but somehow, a couple of them still got in.

Thanks for the responses!! We don't smoke but we do have diapers and a wet dog when it's raining! I think we are gonna start tossing the diapers in a bag and tossing everyday instead of using his diaper pail.

The dog....I love her to pieces! She will be getting a wipe down every day with her dog wipes.

I LOVE my tart burner (fresh linen)!! I think I will get another one for downstairs also to carry on the smell. We live near a candle warehouse I can get a bag of 10 tarts for 1.00!

I mop everyday with our swiffer because of the baby and I love the smell it puts out. I've been trying to open the windows but it gets hot.

I'm just gonna start a new routine I guess, diapers out, dog wiped, vacuum, mop everyday. We'll see how that goes.

I have one of these and I thought it worked ok the first few days then I didn't smell it anymore in the baby's room. Or maybe it was just me used to the smell!
