Default Re: Is red a bad color for a bedroom? (not completely red)

I really think your going to make it was to busy if you do each of the walls a different color/way. You truly want the hard work of the cross stitch to come out and making the walls too busy will overpower the overall theme. Maybe do a accent wall for now and see if you like the color first before doing the entire room. While 5.00 paint was cheap, the amount of money to get the room back to a neutral color wont be. I did one wall in my foyer in a baked bean color (dark brick red) and loved it so much I continued it on the other walls in the foyer.

OT: I love the cross stitching but have no patience. Kudos to you for the patience to do it!

Good Luck!

Would it be too cluttered if I did the fourth wall (after 1 striped wall and 2 solid cream ones) with a toile, brick red border, on a cream base?

This will be our first house, and we've only been allowed to paint in one rental (of 5 so far), so I have very litte experience with painting.
If you do all those types of walls it will be too much, IMO. You could still do the border but like this.... top 1/2 cream, bottom 1/2 red, border in between the colors. Like a chairrail (sp).

Like mama said you can always repaint it if you don't like but with red you'll have to prime over the red and may a lot in order to cover the red.

You can take a sheet wood, cardboard, paper, something and cut it into 4s if needed or 4 sheets and then paint each one the way you want to and then put them together like 4 walls and see if you like it. This way you will have an idea of what it would look like on a smaller scale. There are some programs on the net (I have no idea where) where you can do different design styles and see what you like.

My bedroom is red and I LOVE IT!! I also did all the research and heard it wasn't such a nice color for the bedroom but it meant something different to me (romance) and I went against the "rules". I decided I would start with one red wall and make it behind my headboard and this way I wouldn't have to look at it all the time or wake up to it. I ended up painting the other three a cream color and wouldn't have my bedroom any other way! (I accented stuff in sage green) I absolutely love it. I say start with one wall and make sure you get a dark grey primer for underneath (I made that mistake and was painting for days) Good luck and hope to see pictures when your finished

Well, we don't have the house yet, but I'm sure hoping and praying. It needs a ton of updating (think an old man who lived there by himself. Lots of hardwoods, but brown carpeting and paneling too. Orange and green curtains)

Everyone, thanks for so many ideas! I wish you girls who love doing this lived closer. I'd hire you! (if you take stockpiles or coupons as payment )

Kim, have you thought about painting one wall red and then the other walls a cream? I remember an online issue of Southern Living (Yep, the Southern girls guide to everything) where they painted the wall that the bed headboard rested against a bright fire engine red (guest room) and the other walls were cream to accent it and tone it down. It was spectacular.

I'll give you kudos for bravery - I could never do that.

Now, what color will the Master boudoir be? DAWG Red?!?
