Auto Insurance- What company do you use?

We have Farm Bureau right now and our rates seemed a little high. I did a quote through several agencies and found that geico seems to be the cheapest for good coverage.

I would love to hear everyone's opinion on insurance and specific companies. When we got married we just went with the company DH already had and didn't give it much thought until recently. Now that I'm not going back to work after our baby is born we're cutting all our expenses.

So, what company do you use and why? What aspects of coverage are important to you?

We have really good, full coverage on 2 vehicles through Progressive. We switched from State Farm to Liberty Mutual to Progressive. They have provided us excellent customer service for the past 2 yrs that we have been with them. The company does NOT work on commission which according to their customer service is why they can offer lower rates. We signed up for the MyRate program which connects to your car and monitors your driving habits. The bestter you drive, the lower your bill. My Pathfinder gets a 54% discount - I only leave home 1-3 times a week and drive less than 15 miles when I do. DH's car gets a 40% discount- as he drives every day to work & doing weekly errands, but he is a cautious driver and his trips are usually short (he works 1.5 miles from our house). We pay 6 mos in full each pay period and get a generous discount there. We have no accidents or tickets on our record and we pay less than $90 a month for both cars.

We also recently switched our homeowners insurance from Liberty Mutual to Progressive as well. We are now getting BETTER coverage for our home at $1100 CHEAPER per year. Again, Progressive doesn't work on commission- so their prices were drastically better (and we live in a flood zone). They also gave us like a 20-30% discount for bundling our cars & home.

I have been very pleased. I will probably shop around again this summer, but after much research thus far, I highly doubt we will find anything better than the awesome coverage for the awesome prices that we have now.

I've been with Allstate for 30 years. The times I've checked with other companies, I can't get cheaper than what I've already got. I've had motorcycle policies, car policies and motorhome policies. I usually have 2-4 vehicles at once, not including the motorhome. I only carry liability and medical. I don't have uninsured (too costly), and that's not mandatory. I drive older rigs, so they wouldnt pay replacement value anyway.

I have the maximum for medical costs, though. I do so many different vehicles on and off, buy and sell that I know my insurance folks real well. lol Their phone number is in my head.

You should definitely shop around for rates at least once a year I would think. I used to do it like that until I got with our current insurance. It's with USAA and we can get it cause DH is military. I don't even bother shopping around anymore cause they are so great. It's funny. You know the telemarketing calls you get from Allstate, Geiko, etc asking you who you are with so they can get you to compare their rates...well after they ask and I say USAA...all they say is thank you for your time...LOL!! Never had one of those conversations go any further cause they all know they can't beat them.

I am so glad that you posted this thread! Our oldest will be getting his license in a month. I was quoted $1400 for him w/ commerce insurance. AFter asking friends, they have had quotes anywhere from $800 - $1300 ..

so I definitely need to shop around.

Progressive. We've had them for a couple years now, and no one is lower than GEICO and Progressive for us when we've checked. We stick with P because of the customer service and the accident forgiveness program. Haven't needed it (no accidents for me in years, never for DH) but you never know.

I have Progressive and have been happy with them. When I was looking for insurance, all I did was an online quote from as many companies as I could think of. I chose what coverage I wanted and put the same coverage amounts for each company and chose the cheapest one. The only thing I dislike is that I do not have a local Progressive office, so I can't just go in and get questions answered - I have to call....but for me it's worth it to save $.

We had Farm Bureau but changed to Progressive (at our agents suggestion-they do both)..fairly cheap..alot cheaper than Farm Bureau...as a Body Shop owner..Progressive and State Farm seem to be the best service...fair on repairs, customer friendly, quick to pay on repairs...it's very helpful to have a good insurance if accidents happen.

We've had Progressive for a year now. I love all the discounts you get. And it's cheaper than what we previously paid with Geico even though the coverage is the same.

I would love to switch our homeowner's insurance to Progressive, but don't think we can. With escrow, I think the bank gets to choose. :(
