If its not going to be late in the grace period I would just wait
what if you spent the EF and 2 days later something else came up?
Blah! Waiting on husband's paycheck as he forgot to sign something and had to resubmit it. Payroll stated they would put it at the beginning of the line- then come to find out they are processing it through their regular time period- 12-14 days. Our flood insurance is $300 and we have about $300 left in emergency fund, LOL.
I'm wondering. We have a grace period of 30 days from August 31st, 2010 to renew our policy and pay. The delayed check should arrive within 12-14 days within that 30 day period. We can use the remaining savings to pay for the flood insurance and replenish savings when the delayed check comes, or just wait for his check and pay during that grace period.
We also get paid Sept. 1st and my other thought was to delay bills we can pay later in the month and pay the flood insurance first, then take care of whatever else when the thing comes.
Another option is to borrow from family but that makes my skin crawl. We are very blessed to have family to borrow from, which we had to last year when a pipe busted for $1800.I know my ma (and his ma if we told her this stuff
- reason WHY we don't!) will worry, but she respects my decisions. I feel more comfortable relying on ourselves to pay this sucker when we can since we'll have the money. My mom is so sweet.. just need to plug that in. I get to call her later and whine about the late check.. I ask her to listen as friend-mom and not worried-we-need-help mom.
ANYWAY. What do ya'll suggest?
And of course my husband feels like he's let us down. Mistakes happen, crap happens, and crap gets delayed. It's sometimes nice when this happens (ie, God kickin mine/his bootie awake).. got me out of my funk and focusing on something productive!Thank God our family coupons too... Got plenty of food, pet food, and care items to last if we have to be super strict this month!
Thanks, HCW! Needed to type out my thoughts and appreciate the thoughts.

Exactly! We're in a flood and hurricane zone.. thanks Houston, but I think we'll be okay for a few days without flood insurance. No way in heck I would wait if it were health/car/house insurance.

This is why I refuse to get rid of credit cards....
I"d probably delay bills that you can (gas bill tends to be a good one LOL) and pay the flood insurance that way...I wouldn't risk at all...your policy not getting paid..and then Murphy land a big whoppin hurricane on your lap.
