will he be hourly or salary?
ok this will be long but help please! Hubby is a head car painter at a high end dealership bmw mercedes audi and another brand i cant rember head means nothing except he has been there the longest 5 years he also hates it there.
he also works part time at this place http://ccustomcar.com/he is the only canidate for a head body shop manger he took car fabraction, body work, trim and car painting in collage and has really only done the painting since but that dosent matter to this place
there are NO benifits so i was lookimg at chip in pa and for the kids its free insurance in this range $29,530 - $59,060 and $43 a month plus copays in this range $59,061 - $73,825 not sure how much adult insurance is and now 401k which his current employer only gives 25% up to ?? cant rember
the reason why I am asking is cause the guy wants Hubby to make an offer and I dont want to offer too low he last year made $43,000 just as the painter working a ton of overtime
how much do we offerhe will be incharge of the entire body shop plus might have to do some body work to start since they are "ceaning house" there is only 1 body guy left and no painters guy told him when he walks in its HIS shop he wants NOTHING to do with the body shop
will he be hourly or salary?

just asked dh he said not sure but he imagines salary since most shop managers are.....and as the painter at sun he is the lowest paid guy since he was hired there right out of collage and honestly he is the best there he has no come backs vs the other painter that only has a ton of comebacks he is a hard worker if there is work he will be there
this guy also pays REALLY WELL hubby knows a guy that refuses to quit even though he hates it cause the money is so good he did eventually quit cause of issues (transportaion or family cant remember)
I would think the owner would make a job offer, not the other way around. Just think it is kinda weird.
There are web sites for finding out what jobs pay. Sorry I don't have any links.
i looked none of them have body shop manager i think its weird too
a couple of things....what are some of the salaries of the guys DH knows? does he have a figure that he wants to make?

Did they ask him to make an offer, or just give a salary range as far as what he's looking for?
"think about it for a week because of the no benifits and come up with a number that will be worth it to you" maybe i should say 100,000jk what do we say?
Well since I have no idea what that kind of job makes, this is what I would suggest. Have DH think about what all of the guys he knows makes per hour. Since it will be salary position with no overtime, I would take the highest guys wage and multiply it by 52 hours x 52 weeks and see what you get. For example:
Say he knows that "Johnny" makes $30 an hour.
$30 x 52hours = $1560
$1560 x 52weeks = $81,120 per year. (thats a little high, but no benifits afterall)
Another way to go about it is to ask the owner dude, how much his highest paid employee makes and go from there. You sure don't want to find out he makes less than the people who work for him.

did you try salary.com? You can get specific to your region and job title/experience, etc based on the job descriptions. Might have to get creative since "car painter" is probably not just there.... :-)
I would say in general, if the owner/hiring person is asking for a range just ball park it and go from there. I can't imagine he has no clue as to what your husband should be making... All that being said, if your husband is one of a few good candidates or maybe the only, then i'd be more aggressive. If the owner really wants your husband, I'm sure they could both work out something reasonable. (he can always say that he'd be looking to make XX but is definitely flexible) My other reason for saying that is if he will get a % raise in the future, how much you ask for now, can really, really add up to a difference over time, even if it is just a couple thousand dollars.
Also as a PP said, there is no insurance, so be sure to factor that in.
Although on the other hand, even if he doesn't get exactly what he wants in pay, if he really doesn't like his current job, getting out of there is worth something too!
Good luck!
