First, I never talk to anyone who calls me. I tell them politely that I will call the creditor(ask for the creditor's name - not her's, but the lending institution) and speak with them - reason being is you never know who is actually calling. Are you 100% this woman is from the loan department? I would have DH call the creditor and speak w/ a customer service rep or supervisor and work something out with them. They should be relatively flexible in creating a payment plan - if they are not, tell them, this is all I can do and something is better than nothing. You have to pay the debt, but $5 a month is better than $0 a month, kwim? Is this a government loan or a private lender? They will continue to call until the amount is paid in full and there isn't much you can do about that. I would have to assume by this point this debt has hit your credit report so you will have to work on improving that score by paying on time monthly as per agreed. Even if they don't call, you (well DH) need to be sure that bill is paid every month -Just because they don't call, doesn't mean it isn't due and you shouldn't assume someone else is paying on it. You really don't want to have your credit go so far down it is virtually impossible to come back up, kwim? Good Luck!
