Anyone ever use "We Buy Ugly Houses" Company?
I'm interested in any personal experience someone has had with this company. When my FIL died last month, his house passed to DH and his siblings. The house was seriously trashed. Several of us are in the long process of cleaning up the mess-- absolute filth, roaches, trash everywhere. It's quite a sight. And would never be able to be sold in the regular housing market since none of us have either the time, money, or inclination to make it decent enough to sell. Not that anyone is buying in this market anyway. There are nothing but For Sale signs everywhere in town.
Anywho, the house is not a probate asset so they can do with it what they please. I've looked into this option online. And although they only pay about 65-70% of appraised value (last year it appraised for $60,000), it seems like the best option. Our main goal is just to unload the house so we can use the money for his probate debts. And hopefully have a bit left to divide among the siblings.
So anyone have any experience with this type of situation? Or any advice? TIA!

Re: Anyone ever use "We Buy Ugly Houses" Company?
I had a somewhat similar situation. The house sold to a flipper for less than half what it would have if it was in good repair. Sadly, it was a reasonably fair deal. I wouldn't do the "we buy any house" guys necessarily but ask a few real estate agents if any flippers/investors with good cash track records would be interested. There are companies that will haul away the contents, including the appliances - that might help you with the sale or up the purchase price.
Before you go far inside the door the next time, I highly suggest you buy a bug bomb with pyrethrins in it. That'll at least kill the creepy crawlies. And DON'T open the fridge!

Re: Anyone ever use "We Buy Ugly Houses" Company?
We basically sold FIL's mobile home for about 6K...he bought it 4 years ago for 26K. Seriously men are piggies...and there was no way we could get it ready to sell for anywhere near that amount...we are over 20 hours away.
The agent...basically...had people he used to come in and clean, and change carpet ect...and so he got the work done...and it came out of the sell price.

Thanks to both of you for the info. :)
Oh, trust me-- we bombed that place as soon as I found out about the roaches. I cannot deal with roaches. Blech!
