HELP Investment firms? Need advice ASAP!!

First: Mods...if this isn't the right place for this please just move/delete. I wasn't sure where the right place was. THANKS!

I had a horrible experience with my brokerage firm that I've been with since I graduated college (so 10 years or so) Anyway, today was the straw that broke the camels back. I've put it off for a long time, but it is time to move our funds. I don't do anything except reinvest dividends, invest in my Roth IRA and if I'm lucky and have some then I maybe sell some stock once a year. So I don't do anything complicated. Rarely ever do I buy (I mean...once in a blue moon)

Is there a online brokerage firm that someone can recommend. I'm just tired of being 'fee'd to death to do nothing.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Default Re: Investment firms? Need advice ASAP!!

I was with Merrill Lynch for the past six or seven years so I share your frustration. I felt like the only person that ever made any money was my advisor.

I switched to Vanguard, which is online. They walked me through the process. I don't trade, though, other than through my retirement account. I chose a "target date" account based on my projected retirement. However, I did some reading first that suggested that these tend to get too conservative too quickly, particularly for women, who traditionally have a longer life expectancy. The reading I did suggested I push my target age out 10 years, which I did.

I have been very pleased, but I am a low-maintenance investor. (You wouldn't have gotten the ML guy to say that, but that's because he badgered me regularly.) I don't think I've talked to Vanguard more than once or twice since I opened the account, and that was just to let me know that the $$$ had transferred.

Hope this helps.
