Yep, that was my thought, how would I tip them if I've never seen them? I believe it's a couple of grown men in a truck, not sure if they would want body wash and candles, but I'll figure something out.

As for how, I'm thinking I'll leave something outside my door christmas eve with a note that it's for the newspaper delivery person. Now to figure out the what!

I was the paper person for 1.5 years..

YEEEEEEEEEEEEES you should tip your paper person!
It is a miserable wet job.
In weat, her below freezing, at times, you drive for two plus hours with the window down and never get warm.
last year in three FEET of snow we tried o deliver for three hours on Christmas morning.
We got four complaints on Christmas day because we had not delivered their paper, the PO did not deliver for a week. CHRISTMAS DAY!!!! bah!

You get up at about midnight or 1 am wait in the cold for the papers then stuff about four hundred, then bag probably half, then drive for two hours. remembering wich custmer wants , double bag, by the garage door, by the mailbox, in the tub, right side of the drive way, on the porch, on teh door mat, inside the screen door, some are dailys, some are fri-sun, some are sunday only. Yes, I have delivered to all of those. get done at 5am fall into bed and gt a few hours( 2-3) before you get up and go to work, yep fours hours a night. the tired you feel does not even compare to a new baby in the house. I got paid .075 cents per paper to deliver. I paid for my own gas. seven and a half cents to get our in the rain and walk the paper half way to the porch avoiding the christmas decorations slipping on the ice on the way back to the car. seven and a half cents ~

You have to avoid cars parked in bad spots, my post man will not deliver if my car is blocking the tube, however the trash can or car blocking a paper tube, you better get out and deliver, it is expected.
Your paper person does work 7 days a week 365 days a year

I have quit the paper, but substitute. recently I worked for a guy who had not had a day off in SEVEN YEARS...Years people!

    terrible~

there is a box on our paper bill where you can add any amount to tip your person, it comes in there paycheck. you can tip a few bucks monthly, it is amazing how two and five bucks add up in a month. I loved the the regular tippers.

Christmas time we received cash ciookies gift cards and tips through the paper. all were appreciated.

place the tip where your paper is delivered, or call your paper and give a message to your person to check the porch. Leave the light on!

they are looking this time of year for gifts, so they will spot em if you leave them.

oh, now that I read all the posts, the paper supplies you with the merry christams from your carrier card envelope and instructs you to give them out...it is the job and I did not have a choice.

they are not hinting, they are doing their job

I was going to say some of the same stuff. My brother and I had a paper route for 3 or 4 years when we were younger. We lived in a small town and delivered half the town. We would get up at 4am, stuff the papers, bag the papers, etc., deliver the papers, get home, eat breakfast and then head to school. The paper boy/girl gets no vacations unless they can find someone to deliver their papers for them. Every Christmas we would put a card in the papers just to say Merry Christmas. No tip was expected, but most people gave one by way of gift cards, cookies, money, just a note/card, candy, etc.

I still remember the year that we had an insane amount of snow, 2 feet deep in the street that had been plowed at one point, and we were still expected to have the papers at the customer's doors by the specified time.

Since our early morning paper comes anywhere from 5:AM to 9:AM and sometimes not at all, I don't plan to tip.

Thanks for sharing, but you sound like a more conscientious carrier than mine! =) Mine leaves my two papers at the end of the driveway (a long one, I'll give you that), sometimes the papers are spilling out of the bags when I get them. I could leave something at the end of the driveway but we have a shared driveway with our neighbors and I would be afraid of them running over it. Should I call the paper and ask for an address again?

    Personally no.
I did deliver papers myself once, so i know how hard it is BUT....
My paper person is unreachable (or unwilling). We are billed by the paper, so no interaction is normal. BUT, When I leave notes for our person asking a question...I have NEVR recived an answer, or even an acknowledgement. And whne I took the time to look up his number (we get no contact info, just a name), and called him with questions...not even a return phone call. And yes it was the right person, vm mentioned the News.
Tips are for good service. When all you provide is what you are required to, and ignore me, no tip for you. If i'd even have revived a call or note back on one of the more than one occasions I tried to communicate, there probably would have been a tip.
Mail Carrier, UPS, Fedex, etc always get something as they are great here.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but in alphabetical order, as it should be.
