We budget $100 per person per YEAR, but rarely spend that much. I shop ebay for the kids. I usually spend less than $1 per item after shipping. It takes a LOT of looking, but it's doable. I buy winter clothes during the summer and vice versa.

BTW, I also use envelope budgeting, as many of you do.

I use to budget $20 per person per month and roll it over. Then, DS moved into the mens department and I realized that I had really been ignoring a few basics for me - I've also been interviewing and the possibility of a new job means more clothing (I wear jeans to work now).

I've been trying to slowly build a wardrobe built on basics so I can do a lot of mix and match. I hope to get back to $60 per month soon.

Right now I don't have a set budget for clothes. We are working on paying off debt. If something comes up and we need something I will budget it in otherwise I do big clothes shopping twice a year. Usually, during the after thanksgiving and christmas sales. If i find something I cant live with out (usually on the target clearance rack) I will pay for using my spending money.

Our budget is $15/mo/person, but we rarely get anywhere near that. Most of the kiddos clothes come as hand me downs from other people or siblings, the rest is filled in with garage sales or $1 sales at the thrift store. I buy shoes that I find cheap in sizes larger than they wear - that way, I don't have to spend $20 on shoes when we have a foot growth spurt.

Before I go shopping I just log in and check my balances and I am good to go.

This is interesting! We've never done DR because both DH and I feel uncomfortable with having that much cash (besides the fact that ALL of our bills are paid online). What is the cost for this program?

I pretty much never buy clothes for myself. If I get something new it's probably from the goodwill for very little. I probably spend 50.- a year.
For the kids I shop yard sales. I only yard sale a few times a year when they have city wide yard sales so I would say 20.- 3 times a year so 60.- a yr for the kids.

I laughed out loud at your response - I had the same thought!

Saadia - you have to try to post a picture of your closet - do you live by me? Can I have your hand-me-downs? :) (I hope you know that I am teasing).

Prior to my DH losing his job , I budgeted $100 month for our family of 6 - and usually did not come close to spending it. We shop sales and consignment and I buy most of my little kids clothes at a twice a year sale that my twin club hosts . Now that we have the baby she is growing so fast that I have bought a lot more - but luckily she does not complain about hand-me-downs and used clothing!
