My parents need advice on holding the mortgage to my aunt's house vs selling it to me and my husband vs...well, I don't really even know anymore!

Again, I appreciate anything anyone has to say and/or can still tell me!

A CPA who specializes in Estate tax filing might be helpful with regards to this & could probably answer your question.

My grandmother passed away last Aug. & I was the executor for the estate. The CPA I used was very helpful in answering questions such as yours.

I also received a lot of help from a financial advisor (not planner) with regards to how best to handle the assets of my grandmother's estate. There was no fee for the consultation. My FA makes his money & operates in the same way as mama described.
