I've been couponing for eight years and we already lived simply (we live in a mobile home, drive practical vehicles and don't replace them until they're kaput, all of our furniture is hand-me-downs, we have dialup ISP on a decade old computer, no cable or satellite, etc) so there just isn't anywhere left to cut back. |
This is my post from about a year ago it looks like. I wish I could say things were much better, but I'm not a liar. Things are far worse than I ever thought they could get.
Just trying to hang in there and trust that God is going to remain true to his Word and bring us through.

| Re: Financially - Are you doing better than before? I know its doom and gloom for many but I've also seen many who are thriving in this economy. It could be the result of sound financial decisions they made through the years that worked to their advantage now. Many also admit that bad financial choices they made have put them in the hole they're in right now. If they knew then what they know now, they could have avoided the pitfalls. Hindsight is always 20/20.

| Re: Financially - Are you doing better than before? We're at worst ever in 27 years, but we're hanging in there. It's tough with Dh recent layoff and medical bill up to our eyeballs but we will survive this. The good Lord doesn't put more on your plate than you can swallow. Still though I'm really getting tired of the choking feeling some days.

| Re: Financially - Are you doing better than before? Big hugs for everyone doing worse than before
I voted that we are doing fine but we are doing much better than 1 year ago but that is due to many factors. A year ago I was a full time student working part time barely making anything and my boyfriend was working but he had a few contract jobs back to back before he got a full time job. He was unemployed 2 times in the past year (Oct and March) for about 6 weeks each time which caused us to rack up some cc debt.
In April my boyfriend got a full time permanent job making more than he was before. I graduated college in May and finally started a new job in July. I am making much better money but my job is not using my degree at all (but I feel secure with my new job because they are still hiring in this economy).
We should have all our cc debt paid by the end of October but we have between 60,000-70,000 in other debt that will be paid monthly over the next few years. About 22,000 of the debt is in cars, we currently own 3 cars :hectic1: and have payments on all of them but one was just sold to my boyfriends parents and they will be paying us monthly for the rest of that loan (about 1800). The rest of the debt is both of our student loans.
So we are doing good in this economy but when I started college 5 years ago I thought I would be making at least $5,000 more a year after graduation than what I am making now (with a job in my field). But I am happy with the company I am working for and there is a lot of room for advancement.

| Re: Financially - Are you doing better than before? Well, originally I posted doing fine if not better than before.
Of course, the economy took awhile to affect me in my little world.
Now I am in serious doubt if anyone's job is truly safe. I work
in a small hospital and they just layed off 10 well established, loyal
employees. A pharmacist, ICU nurses and Human resource employee.
Months ago, it was the CFO they let go.
I am very thankful, grateful to still have a job. I am the only income
to a family of 6. Praying everyday for peace.

| Re: Financially - Are you doing better than before? Honestly, I'm doing well because I stopped listening to the media. I think America would be a lot healthier if we all turned off Fox/CNN/MSNBC and went out and watched the moon at night. Financially...I'm bankrupt, but I've been that way for two years now. I lost my good job and haven't really recovered...but emotionally and health wise...I'm good.

| Re: Financially - Are you doing better than before? It's been a mixed year for us. While DH maintained employment, we face large medical expenses (mostly dental and necessary medicine/medical items). With my new health condition, there is additional stress to increase our emergency savings.
Next year will be an aggressive year for us financially. |

Just trying to hang in there and trust that God is going to remain true to his Word and bring us through. | | Updated update - Hubby now has a solid job again - thank you Lord!!! We have lived through the toughest two years financially we've ever faced in our fifteen years of marriage, but we are finally walking out on the other side. \o/
