lol at family dinners ---couponers have been doing this for a long long time. Guess that's one of the reasons we're happier than spendthrifts?
10 reasons to love a recession (Page 1 of 3)

With money getting very tight a walk to a bus station and bike rides will do fine insted of gas tank fillups and expensive fitness clubs.
Interesting article. Thank you for sharing. I've kind of had similar thoughts myself; even though it hurts to fork over the extra money at the pump and, well, everywhere else, it has caused me to make a lot of positive changes! Just a few examples:
--convinced me once and for all to start stockpiling (which eases numerous worries related to hubby's job, as well as shortages and other things)
--decided to park the car all but one day a week when I go to our nearby metro area and do ALL the running in one day. This forces planning ahead and being far more organized than last-minute trips to this store or that every few days.
--as mentioned on the last point, meals are getting planned much more often than they used to (I'm the one who invented the "open the pantry door, place hands on hips and sigh loudly while trying to figure out what to serve in 5 minutes" routine)
--got me started bartering for some of my son's activities with services I can provide to the instructors
There are plenty of others too, but this has gone on too long already. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for sharing that somewhat uplifting article that I really needed to read!
Interesting article. I have noticed more perishable items marked down before expiration lately. Especially the higher-priced cuts of meat, or organic meats and things like buttermilk and heavy cream. My theory has been that people who usually buy these things are buying them less often (but at the same time farmers are slaughtering more that they can't feed) so the market is flooded while there are fewer buyers, kind like the SUV's. I benefit because I swoop in, grab the marked down organic meat and freeze it for my stockpile.![]()
I liked this article. DH and I have openly discussed much of this, especially the fitness aspect.
I am one of the few people who is beginning to (although not completely yet) embrace the gas prices. I think it forces people to look into alternative fuels and quit wasting so much!

I am very careful to plan all my trips carefully to not spend too much gas. Only sad part is my dh use to come to my son's Karate but with a special trip to the clasee (I work close to the class but we live a bit aways) so we don't want to spend for two cars to drive down. But this to will pass. Also we plan our errands in the same area and just walk everywhere in the area and then drive home.
recession means.... stocks will be on sale!
Attention KMart shoppers- stock price dip in aisle three! Kinding of like stockpiling chicken, only stockpiling investments have a higher rate of return (eventually!) LOL
