Since he caters to an average consumer over 90% of them think that coupons doesn't work and is a waste of time, what does Dave think about coupons and in particular about extreme couponing as we do it? How about stockpiling?

I wouldn't say he caters to an average consumer, but people who are wanting to be smart about their money and making it work for them. That being said, I don't think I have ever heard him address couponing. I listen to parts of his show every day too. I think he would have the idea that if it's saving money from the grocery budget that could be used to pay down debt or fund something equally worthwhile, he would be all over it.

Let's face it - the man is a multi-millionaire and coupons are simply not on his radar. Nothing wrong with that, but it is what it is. Stockpiling is something I think he would be for as well as long as it was bought at a good price because it would free up money down the line for something else.

Just my 2¢, but a fair opinion, I think.

I read his two books and I do remember he said that his wife used couponing after he hit bottom and had to work his way back up. He didn't really emphasize it or describe how "extreme" she went with it. But he did mention it in a positive way and even encouraged it, if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have his books? Would love to read them, my library is closed as they are rebuilding. Any specific recommendations?

Yes, I remember him mentioning the same thing in his book. I'm sure though that Dave is all for stretching your dollar, especially when it comes to the food budget nowadays.

We have different perception of an "average consumer", I still give to that category some credits..
I'd understand coupons are not on his own radar, but his audience is not people from his own level.
My concern with Ramsey and coupons is that his system assumes no own control or creativity whatsoever. Using coupons as we do it needs time efforts and lots of creativity in scenarios design, time to collect coupons and track deals as well as knowledge on rules and regulations. Plus considering gasoline price now, would he say multiple trips are just a waste, strict adherance to the budget is better?

    Wanted to add.
with all grocery deals going on like spend $300 get an extra 10%, would he allow a major grocery budget break to get $330 worth of GC for $300 and how to do it in cash system? It is very possible to spend $300 in 2 mo on groceries for an average family, (not couponers like us, LOL) so 10% of return in 2 mo. is a great guaranteed investment, but total and complete budget buster. But as I understand his system based on execution of the plan, this type of deviations are not incorporated, so what would he suggest?

He does mention coupons in FPU.
He said for her to keep her reciepts. At the end of the year whatever she used in coupons he would give her in cash. He said he rather give the money to her then to a store.

And something about if they were going to buy it anyhow. Which leads me to believe it wasn't "extreme" couponing (sounds like a sport). But, then again. I don't know maybe she did buy 100 boxes of Cheerios at a time.

DH when we were going through it told me that we would do the same. Well, the next week we went clothes shopping and I used a $x/$xx for a outlet clothing store. He owed me $100 that day alone. (Everything was paid for in cash, anyhow).

Well, still haven't seen the money. But, if we did that, he owe me so much money now.

The one thing that I like about Dave is how creative he can be with people when they have money problems. He is all about getting something without paying (or paying nothing at all), so I would think that if you can do it and still come out ahead, it would be great.

However, if you live 30 miles from a store who has daily sales and you want to go every day, he would probably question if it's worth it. That's a stretch and I realize that.

I don't think his "system" is that narrow-minded and if you ever get a chance to spend time on any of the forums about his "system", you would see that people that follow his line of common sense are very creative - many times because of his ideas.

Thumbs Up Re: ? to Dave Ramsey fans

Dave is amazing! My husband and I just finished the thirteen week finacial peace university course and are on our way out of debt! While he didn't really mention couponing specifically he is a firm believer in saving money, cutting costs, and bargain shopping. One whole class was just on finding good deals.
