    Default Economic Stimulus - Question

So, DH's last two digits fall in the group of checks schedule to be direct deposited by May 16th. So, we've anxiously been awaiting the deposit.

It's not there! :( It hasn't deposited yet!

So, I'm starting to get concerned.

We filed through TurboTax and owed. We didn't do the RAL or RAC things that will require a paper check. We told them to direct deposit our stimulus and we paid our federal taxes via direct debit from the same account. We e-filed on 4/14/2008. They took our money out within a day or two of filing. I forgot to mail in the signature sheets, but sent those in around 5/1.

Do you think the delay of the signature sheets is what is delaying our stimulus?

The IRS website says that we should expect it 6 weeks after they process our tax return. So, did they not completely process our return until they received this paperwork?

Will we still get it direct deposited just late? Or, will we get a paper check?

    Anyone know?

I think you're going to get a paper check. :frown:
I found this from the FAQ's on the IRS website:

    Q. I chose direct debit to pay my tax bill. Will my stimulus payment be direct deposited to the same account?
    A. No, the account information used for an incoming direct debit payment to the IRS cannot be used as the account information for the direct deposit of the stimulus payment. People who choose direct debit to pay a balance due will receive their stimulus payments by paper check through the mail. [Updated 3/3/08]

But we choose Direct Debit to pay it and also on TurboTax it asked us if we wanted it Direct Deposited. So, we said yes and put in the account number. We answered two questions (Direct Deposit & Direct Debit) with the same bank information.

The question from the FAQ makes it sound like if you ONLY had it direct debited and you didn't answer a question about your economic stimulus, then they aren't going to automatically put it into your account that you direct debited.

Or am I not understanding that right?

I always forget to mail in that form. I'm not sure if that is the hold up or not, but I didn't get a letter saying I qualified for a stimulus rebate until after I mailed it in.

If you mailed it in late, you may have to wait until the last batch. Since you mailed your e-signature form in so late after the April 15 deadline, you may get it next year. I think I read that somewhere.

The only thing we've received in the mail is the little postcard sized notification that had information about the economic stimulus. So, we should be expecting a letter saying we qualified?

We won't have to wait until next year. We'll get it this year, it'll just arrive late:

People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year. See the online calculator for an estimate of the amount you will receive.
A small percentage of tax returns will require additional time to process and to compute a stimulus payment amount. For these returns, stimulus payments may not be issued in accordance with the schedule above, even if the tax return was processed by April 15.

    Okay, I stand corrected.

I did get 2 letters. One was announcing the stimulus, the other I got a day or so before it deposited saying when it would deposit.

Call IRS. The number is 1-800-829-1040. You need to go to accounts and speak to a person. I think it's 2, 2, hold until a person comes on and they should be able to answer your questions. Be sure to write down the person's name and ID number of the person you are talking to.

Yeah, I think it's time to call them. It sounds like you did everything right to get your check direct deposited. It may be a mistake on their end that can be corrected.

I called. But, I kept getting the message that they are experiencing high call volume and to try back later. Then it hangs up on me. I'll try again tomorrow while I'm at work.
