Re: Bellagio Faux - LOVE IT! Anyone else tried it?? Well, it is a 2 step thing. First of all you paint the wall with a base coat of flat paint. Fortunately for me, Sears was clearancing antique white flat paint for $4.88/gallon, so that was easy. I just wanted a neutral near white color base, because unlike a lot of faux techniques, the Bellagio has a lot of "influence" on the finished product. You can use any base you like, and depending on how heavy you put on the Bellagio, a lot or a little of the base shows through. I put on the Bellagio very thickly, so it is definitely the dominant color.
The Bellagio is a 1 gallon paint can, but it looks/feels nothing like paint or glaze. It is VERY gloppy, kinda like Cream of Wheat used to be when I was a kid (okay, maybe my mom made it wrong) but it is very thick with chunks of stuff in it. The chunks are like little pieces of a clear gel-like substance and you paint it on the wall in various sized X's then smear it with a trowel. The gel parts then sort of break open and smear on the wall and act as a glaze that you can see the base coat through. It gives it sort of a plastery look like very old plaster that has weathered. I tried to use google to find a good pic, but I can't find one that shows anything. I may have to take a pic myself after I get the rest of the bedroom cleaned up.
Edit: Forgot to address oops paint. It is paint that someone else ordered and or bought that they didn't like for whatever reason but since it was already custom tinted, Home Depot sells them off for $1/quart, $5/gallon, or $15/5 gallon. My store doesn't specifically retint for you, however, they have an awesome tint guy and if one of the returns is an off or ugly color, he adds new/different tint to try to make attractive colors.
