Bellagio Faux - LOVE IT! Anyone else tried it??

I picked up a gallon of Bellagio Faux at Home Depot (oops paint, $5 for a gallon) and I did an accent wall in our master bedroom. The color is called Tuscany Sand, and its a biege/mustardy color and I love it, it is so cool!!!! After we got the hang of it, it was very simple to do,, and the wall looks awesome!!

Sorry, DH just doesn't get excited about such things and I have to share with someone!!!

Was this on clearance or is that regular price? And what exactly is it? Is it like two colors mixed together to lessen your work? Sorry, I have never done faux painting, so I have no idea what is involved exactly. I thought what you do is paint the wall one color and then go over it with another color using a certain applicator depending on the effect you want.

    Yes, please tell us more.

Is it a one step or two step process? I've got to start deciding what to do with the walls.

Yes and can we back up to the Oops paint...? Can you give them a color it isn't and they will change it (like if it was off white and you wanted blue) or do you have to love what they are selling there?

$5!!! Man, that is an excellent price!!!

Well, it is a 2 step thing. First of all you paint the wall with a base coat of flat paint. Fortunately for me, Sears was clearancing antique white flat paint for $4.88/gallon, so that was easy. I just wanted a neutral near white color base, because unlike a lot of faux techniques, the Bellagio has a lot of "influence" on the finished product. You can use any base you like, and depending on how heavy you put on the Bellagio, a lot or a little of the base shows through. I put on the Bellagio very thickly, so it is definitely the dominant color.

The Bellagio is a 1 gallon paint can, but it looks/feels nothing like paint or glaze. It is VERY gloppy, kinda like Cream of Wheat used to be when I was a kid (okay, maybe my mom made it wrong) but it is very thick with chunks of stuff in it. The chunks are like little pieces of a clear gel-like substance and you paint it on the wall in various sized X's then smear it with a trowel. The gel parts then sort of break open and smear on the wall and act as a glaze that you can see the base coat through. It gives it sort of a plastery look like very old plaster that has weathered. I tried to use google to find a good pic, but I can't find one that shows anything. I may have to take a pic myself after I get the rest of the bedroom cleaned up.

Edit: Forgot to address oops paint. It is paint that someone else ordered and or bought that they didn't like for whatever reason but since it was already custom tinted, Home Depot sells them off for $1/quart, $5/gallon, or $15/5 gallon. My store doesn't specifically retint for you, however, they have an awesome tint guy and if one of the returns is an off or ugly color, he adds new/different tint to try to make attractive colors.

I would love to see a picture of it if you ever get a chance to put one up. Okay, one more question. Is that the name brand of the paint or a generic term for the type of paint that it is?

To my knowledge (I could be wrong) Bellagio Faux is a recipe, but I'm not one to be mixing and concocting paint and plaster at my house, and Behr Bellagio Faux is the only commercial, ready to go bellagio product that I am aware of, however, even Behr has it set up so you have to buy a can without tint and mix yourself if you want one of the metallic hues, otherwise there are about 30 color choices that Home Depot mixes at the paint counter, so it's ready to go when you buy it. This is the kind I got, but I pulled it out of the oops bin, so I didn't choose the specific color (other than choosing whether or not to but it), but it was ready to apply when I bought it, I didn't do any mixing.

Edited because apparently I cannot spell.

WARNING: Stay away from the Bellagio Fauxs with METTALIC paint in it! Both times I had to buy extra gallons because the paint became overpowered by the metallic half way through the gallon and all that was left was the corrupted mettalic mixture. It did not match the mixture when i first started and looked horrible.
