Thumbs Up Re: What is your favorite frugal

Ok here's one I've gotten lots of compliments on.

I take the cheapest sheets I can find. (Wal mart twin size sheets. Lowest thread count available = about $1.50) They also sell curtain rods for about $10 for the style I like. Cheaper ones are available.

I take the head of the sheets, tear open the ends with a thread cutter and run the rods through. They look like curtains when you're done, you can alternate colors for cool effects. (I have tan, light green, tan, then light green again in my room).

You can either get higher thread count or more sheets per window to block out more light if you're a vampire like me.

I can't post attachments yet otherwise I'd take pictures. But it shouldn't be to hard to visualize.

I just couldn't understand spending 100 bucks or more for curtains.

I used the flat sheet from my bed-in-a bag to make panels for my windows (very narrow windows) and the rest to make more pillowcases, instead of buying the shams and curtains on top of the bed-in-a-bag set!

I also bought white sheets for almost half of the colored ones (same thread count) and bought some rit dye for $1.50 to make them the color I wanted!

I quit buying fabric softener sheets. I cut up sponges and soak them in a mixture of 1/2 softener and 1/2 water, squeeze them out and throw them in the dryer.
    It doesn't stain my clothes.
The clothes smell so much better and have less lint.
I use dryer balls. I have less static in the winter and my bath sheets dry in one cycle.
    I used 2048 q's FEB 2011 because of SFShopper ,,,offline,,,,,alot!

Instead of buying frozen pancakes, even if they are free, I make a weeks worth at one time. I have two cast iron griddles that I got at Academy for about 6.00 each. I buy the 10 lb bag of Krusteaz pancake mix for less than 6.00, which makes 240 pancakes. I store the pancakes in a Gladware container in the fridge and reheat in the m/w for about 30-45 seconds for 4 pancakes. I store the pancake mix in a plastic container that makes it easy to measure out the four cups.

I splurged at a restaurant supply store and bought one of the large salad dressing containers that I use to pour the mix on the griddle. I also will cook a pound of bacon in the oven at the same time and store that in a plastic bag. My grandson goes to school everyday with a hot breakfast.

I did the exact same thing for curtains in our bedroom. I agree, they look like curtains and cost a fraction of the price.

I frame some of my daughter's artwork, change the picture every once in a while and it's a whole new look.
