HI Re: Can we talk Vacuum Cleaners for a minute?

hi, i'm the same spot, as you are..

I wanted to mention, that WAlmart, even w/ a receipt will NOT take back their vacumns!!!!!
    grrrrrrrr

They want you to go thru the manufactors, huge hassle, i didn't even bother..

I still want to spend only 40 bucks on one.. thats about all i can do, being on disability ..
acutally i don't want to buy one at all!!!
LOL, rather use my money elsewhere,

i'm soo tired of cheap vacumns, if i had the money, I'd buy a Dyson, in a second!!

most people w/ dirt devils don't do too well, glad the person w/ one is!! :)

of course, i have tons of cat hair too, lol

hmm craigslist... thats a good idea.. one of my fav places!~

any other ideas.. keep them coming~

I've had tons and now that I have a Rainbow, I'll never GO BACK!!! It's the best and will pick up anything and my house is cleaner than ever. I don't have to dust as often too!!

It's expensive, but well worth it!

I have a Bissell bagless that we bought at Walmart for $50. I love it, and it picks up great. I like it better than my Hoover I had, and I thought those couldn't be beat. My son needed a new vacuum, and I bought him one just like mine, and he likes his too. He moved into a rental, and couldnt believe how much it picked up out of the carpet, that he was using his old one on.

I can't wait to get my Dyson!! That's our next purchase. I tried one once and love it.
If you live near a Home Depot, they have any purchase of $299 on a Home Depot Credit Card get 6mos no interest, and there is 10% off on $299 in appliances (not sure if vac's are included) That may help with spreading out payments if you open a card account. I can say, we got our last Vac at a little resale shop for about $25.00. You could try that route to see if you find something until you can do a bigger purchase. Check Goodwill stores and places like that if you have one nearby. You may find one in the newspaper too. Good luck!

I know some people say otherwise, but I love my Dyson dearly. Especially if you have pets (which I do) there is no better vacuum.

At the time we didn't want to pay that much and sold it to the electrolux company for $125.00!! sure wish would would have just spent that small amount of money and had it fixed... We sure went through A LOT more then $150.00 in vacuums in the next 8 years!
I have a cheap bagless dirt devil upright that my husband just loves. I hate it because it is as loud an airplane engine, I swear. I also hate emptying a bagless, but I know it is more cost effective. I have an Electrolux too that use to be my parents. When they bought a new Electrolux they took their old one in and had it serviced and then gave it to us. It is the BEST vac.! It is the only brand of vac. I use to do my Saturday chores with when I was growing up. It just kept going and going. They are a little pricey but you can buy used ones at an Electrolux dealer and that will save you a lot versus buying a new one. If our Electrolux ever gives up I'm just going to take it in and have them repair it or trade it in for another one. I'm extremely brand loyal in this area!

We got a Rainbow about 5 years ago, because I grew up using either an Electrolux (mom's) or a Rainbow (grandma's), and honestly even though the thing was pricey it runs beautifully and I swear could suck up my big dog. LOL We went through so many cheap vacuums before this one.

Even the refrubished ones are worth it, and come with a warranty. I think that the warranty on a new one is 20 some years and lifetime on some of the parts.

Even though it's bagless, I clean the hepa filter with water once every year and it's good to go again.

ETA: Both my mom's and my grandma's vacuums are still running great! Not bad for a 20 year old vacuum and a 40 year old vacuum.

We bought an Oreck about 2 years ago - $$$$ BUT worth every penny. We have FREE maintenance every year and it should last about 20 years. When it comes back from maintenance, it's just like new and picks up EVERYTHING.

Before, we were buying a vacuum cleaner just about every year.

I just bought the Bissell healthy home at kohls when they had the 30 and 15% off and free shipping. It uses the same cyclonic technology as a Dyson but I paid around $170 for it. You do need to buy an extra filter to use($10 and it will last me forever) to protect the hepa filter on it. pm me for details on that.

there is also a newer model shark sold at walmart that is supposed to be the same as a dyson, for around 150
