    Default Thread counts on sheets

I went to Kohl's and I saw some 800 thread count sheets, and they were so thick and heavy, are they worth the costs and additional cleaning/drying time?

No, as you observed, they are very heavy because of how tightly woven the fibers are. They would be very hot so if you are constantly cold they might be great. Otherwise no.

The highest thread count I have bought is 600 for a duvet. With the comforter in it, it is very heavy but hubs loves it because we keep our bedroom very cool so he's still warm.

That said, I do think investing in sheets with a higher thread count is absolutely worth it but I think 250-300 is good enough - at least for me.

I would google "thread count in sheets" to see how it works - then you will understand better and know if the higher pricing is worth it or not.

I don't think there would be extra cleaning time.

I always buy extra sheets on Black Friday. That's when I stock up on goods for the house. I always save up extra money through out the year for this special "crazy" shopping day. I agree with Renee-250-300 ct is good for me.

I like " expensive " sheets. It's maybe the only " luxury " i will allow myself - since the " bed " is the place where i come to take my rest and get ready for the life's challenges i want to be " looking " forward to that.
That being said- i have noticed that the count is not the only thing that you need to pay attention to. Some companies might have 500-600 count but the sheets feel so rough and.. heavy, while others might have 400 and feel nicer and better quality.

I don't have " 10 sets " of sheets in my closet , only have the " current " one i'm using- that way , as soon as i wash it - i put it back on- and i don''t have any clutter in closets. For that reason- i can afford to buy one " luxury " set - instead of 3-5 cheap ones. It works for me since i don't like full messy, cluttered closets.
Same thing for my children- i have invested in their sheets much more than most friends of mine ever wood- ( but i felt guilty for having them sleep on 150-200 count while i have 600 + ).

So to summerize : you have to " touch and feel " not only read the count, if it's a quality that you like - you can go with lower count, if it's not something you like when you touch it- even 2000 count is not going to make you happy :)

I'm currently very happy with the 600 count i got from target last summer- very good quality and they don't take " extra time to dry " .. almost feel silky to the touch , like " satin" but- are 100 % Egyptian cotton..

by the length of my comment you can tell - i love this department :)

Yes, cotton, and Egyptian if you can afford it. You won't be sorry.

I have bought a lot of sheets at Overstock. They are reduced in the first place, the shipping is very low but you can almost always get free shipping, you can go through Ebates and get that percentage back plus they send out coupons often for an additional 7% off. I have never had to return anything to them.

I have to agree with n2save. I love love my luxury sheets. I have 2 sets of 1000ct Hotel sheets. They are wonderful, and get better with wear and washing. They feel cool and silky to the touch and don't require any extra time for cleaning. I have made the mistake of buying some 600-800ct and they were very rough. I feel like the princess and the pea now, but I could never go back to lower counts.

Yes overstock is a great place for " luxury "things we usually wouldn't be able to afford.
I think i saw there sheets for like 1000-2000 counts ? I must say i was really thinking to get it :) but.. for now Target was good enough :)

This 600 count that i have now- is from " hotel " company but you would never guess it's 600 - i used to have 800+ counts before ( from Dillards store and used to pay so much money for it ) .. but i have to say - i'm in love with this quality that i got- like you said they feel so " cool " and get better with the washing :)

Another place where i have seen really great sheets was Costco- they had 500-600 counts arround 49$ .. which is " reasonable ' comparing to Dillards or Macy's etc.

I bought a set of 2000 thread egyptian cotton last weekend and I have to tell you these things are the softest sheets I have ever bought or felt. They are awesome and they fit great on my big king size bed that has almost a 19 inch thickness to it.

    YES YES YES

High thread count sheets are the best thing ever. I always bought cheap ones and one day my SO bought a $100 sheet set and I will never go back.

If you like to sleep in serious comfort, shell out for thread count.

Do yall find the super high thread counts make you feel hot at night? I've read that they are so densely woven that they will hold in heat more than a lower thread count.

I bought a duvet that was 1000 thread count and that thing is so massively heavy it's a true effort to lift it, and it definitely makes a huge difference in the amount of warmth it keeps in. Hubs is sometimes cold at night and I never am so he uses the comforter with the duvet and I just use my regular comforter.

I think cotton is almost as responsible for the comfort of sheets as the thread count but as long as they're cotton, for me, 400 - 600 is good enough.
