Lessons learned when building a home or dealing with Ryan Homes as a builder?

We're in the research process of possibly building a home with Ryan homes. I'm curious to hear about your experience with Ryan Homes.

Any tips on building a home - lessons learned?

How do we save the most $$ when doing a project like this?

Ryan homes will get you with the ad ons-like a lot of builders will. Most times you are better off doing any upgrades yourself after your house is built.

I am actually in a subdivision where Ryan has just come in to take over building. Perosnally I am not impressed with them (though I am a custom home builders daughter). The models alway look good because it has every upgrade in it. Builders also do tricks (depending on what you are building and where) where they will use slightly scaled down furniture so you can't tell how small a room really is. 10X10 is tiny unless you only plan on having a twin bed, night stand and dresser.

In my subdivision where we are all upset because our homes starting prices were $210,000 (pre Ryan) and Ryan has some in and on the internet saying thier homes start at $170,000....

As with any builder STAY ON TOP OF THEM. CHECK THE CONSTRUCTION OFTEN, do walk throughs as much as possible.

We decided to move forward with building a home by Ryan Homes. We just sold our house - less than a month and for our asking price - and already signed the contract a month ago to build with Ryan. See my blog for info!

We did it! We've been in our new Ryan Home since April 1st - and so far, so good!

We're coming up on almost a year in our Ryan home. It's been a really great experience and one of the best decisions we ever made. There are numerous blogs now about building with Ryan Homes since I began mine in December 2009. So much more valuable information then ever before. It has really blossomed into quite the little community of blogs!
