We have a habitat for humanity store in our town that sells the left over building supplies. You could check and see if there is one near you.
Okay, so I've mastered oops paint, and my entire house has been repainted in some awesome, modern colors and high quality paint, but DH and I are trying to piece together finishing the basement and upgrading/modernizing our 7 year old house. There is a chance we will be selling the house in approx 2 yrs (sooner if our housing prices continue to skyrocket) and some of our neighbors who have done upgrades are getting top dollar for their houses. Here is a list of our current needs, but none are urgent, (and some I don't even NEED, they would just make the house look better). I'm just waiting for a fantastic deal to come along:
Dining room chandelier (modern looking)
Kitchen hanging light fixture that matches or at least coordinates w/ dining room fixture, has to be fairly large and able to hang from a vaulted ceiling
Upgraded kitchen faucet
Upgraded bathroom faucets
Upgraded bathroom light fixtures
Upgraded hallway and bedroom light fixtures
Rocker-type light switches
Hardwood (can be laminate, Pergo, etc.) flooring, about 150 s.f. for a bedroom/office
Hanging closet doors
Brushed nickel doorknobs and doorknob assemblies (inside type)
Brushed nickel bathroom accessories (towel bars, TP holders, etc.)
Upgraded outside light fixtures for front porch and driveway lighting
Glass shower door for a small (32") shower
Nice 4 ft or 5 ft vanity, and a counter top and sink to go with it if we get one
Very nice spa type shower head for master shower
VERY UPGRADED, but white dishwasher and electric stove (I've done a lot of research here and can consistantly find deals, but would like to find a STEAL)! Also, if the deal is good enough, I can convert to gas stove.
Yes, I've also been scouring ebay all the time and have already found a GREAT brushed nickel Pottery Barn sconce for the basement hallway ($4) and a modernized ceiling fan for the master bedroom ($5) as well as lots of accessories such as picture frames and lamps, but the more eyes, the better!!!!!!

You may also want to check your local goodwill superstore and any thrift/junk/antique stores. We have found a lot of stuff there that just needed to be refinished or repainted. You can also get a lot of good stuff there to stage your home when you sell it!
All sorts of deals for all shades of green.
Check out HCW's sister site, Organic Grocery Deals. See you there!
Thanks Heidi, I notice there are no HH Restores in my state, urgh! I may have to visit them next month when I am in Kansas City. I have visited the Salvation Army, but thats a good reminder, I should go back and poke around some more.
There's a few stores around here that takes donated items from building stores and builders (some new items and some used but in still usable shape.) )Neither one is affiliated with Habitat but they are also non-profit.) Maybe if you contact one of the bigger building companies in your area, they could tell you if there's anything similar in your area.
