    Default Furniture Needs/Discussion Thread

    Lots of us seem to have some furniture purchasing needs. Thought I would stick up a thread for that, so we can have a discussion on pricing, etc.

    Having just finished all my furniture purchasing for awhile, I feel pretty comfortable talking about what's in the market.

    Craftmatic Bed

    Anyone have one of these? Curious how they compare to the sleep number bed we just got, which did have the same craftmatic type features.

    Adding a link for the sleep number bed, which is what we got, and it's pretty darn nice.

    Our current furniture "need" (lived without it for a long time and could go longer but want it!) is a headboard for ds's twin bed. We've alsays been able to get hand-me-downs, garage sale, etc. for the bedrooms, but I can't seem to get my hand on this. Any suggestions of stores to start looking? (IKEA is a long, long drive...don't really want to go there).
    TIA!

    Have you checked the HGTV sight for directions on making one? They always have the cutest stuff and it seems relatively easy to make. Today's was made out of louvered doors. Lattice also seems to be popular. I think they attach a lot of theirs to the wall rather than the bed itself.

    Something to think about . . .

    Christmas Re: Furniture Needs/Discussion Thread

    In my entire adult life, I've never paid for a sofa.. ever..

    There are tons and tons and tons of free couches, out there!!!
    They can be soo easy to spiff up too.. nice sheets.. cheap at salvation army stores.. plus i have cats, so i don't really care, lol, if they shred it, lol.

    My method is CREATIVE VISUALIZATION.. and it works.. i write down specifically what I want.. needs first.... sometimes if any lamp will do, i'll just write a lamp... then I BELIEVE I already have it.. AND give thanks for it..
    Example, i really really wanted some nice pillows, my neighbor moved out, the next day, he was hardly ever at home, left really nice pillows..

    This apt , ALL FREE:
    entertainment center, bed, desk, lamps, fans, pots and pans, Sofa,
    computer desk (that i use for a makeup table.. retails about 200 )..
    White Wicker Shelves, White Wicker Chest, chest of drawers....
    etc, etc..
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    thats just for this place.. i've lived in over 50 places.. and always managed to get free stuff.. using Creative Visualization..
    once, got a 1200 sq ft log cabin, in the woods w/ a dishwasher
    (which was on my list, lol) for 200 a month..
    It works!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Apartments, check it out on wkends.. or nights.. usually people will leave decent couches, various furniture etc, not in, but by the garbage bins.. tho yeah, sometimes, you might have to go in, a bit.. lol

    Craigs list,..

    Shaki Gawain has written a book called~ yes.." Creative Visualization",
    anyway, i highly recommend it

    For wall decorations, its amazing what some nice calender pictures, fabrics, baskets, silkflowers and clear pintacks will do!!
    Imagination and fun~

    I have acouple of ideas I am moving May 1 and my d's is nearly all designed on paper she is almost 3

    headboards are fairly easy to make or mimic with little or no money unless you really want it attached. Here ae
    re 3 ideas

    1. rectangle shaped mdf home store will cut to fit just an inch all the way around larger than the twin bed width. Now the fun part for padding if you have a family dollar or big lots (cheapest) then target or wal mart buy mattress foam chaper than fabric stores.

    I have simply staple gunned this but I have also glued it both work check at your home store for the glue type that will work best.

    Now fabric, wrap it like a gift and staple gun it in the back...good thing you can take it apart and put it together until you get it the way you want. ( I cheat on fabric with cloth shower curtains, table cloths, blankets or vintage from Salvation Army)

    2. picket fence nailed to the wall so cute for little ones.

    THIS IS WHAT I AM DOING IN JOYEUX'S ROOM

    3. Two tower style bookcasess slim design for small room, bed in middle on platform one bookcase faces out with the side being the headboard, the other faces in toward the bed ( meaning I can put her tv/dvd/player books etc facing her...HERE IS THE TRICK..

    One curtain rod across the whole thing and one from the inside the bookcase to bookcase ...hope this makes sense it will look like a canopy/or if you can imagine window treatment on travis (sure I spelled it wrong) rod. I highly recommend steel string called Digit from Ikea about $16 disappears all you see is the beautiful fabric...

    HOPE it make sense pm me for more ideas I am the decorating diva

    Also art work hung with grosgain ribbon above the bed is SO Cute
