Default I never knew fabric and fluff cost so much!

So, we've always been 'wad up a sweatshirt/towel/small blanket and shove it in front of the door to keep the cold out in winter. Well, I decided to go browse for something that was actually made for that purpose. Heck, I didn't even know what the thing was called lol so that was an interesting search. (Found out it's called a door draft)

Anyways....$20 to $40.

For some junky little fabric shoved up with some of that fluff stuff I would imagine. Are you kidding me?

Ok, I can't sew to save my life. Not because I can't sew, but because I can't do the stupid knots. So, I'm thinking about seeing if hubby can do the knots and I'll just go to Joanns or Walmart and get some like $1 a yard junk fabric and some what does it cost? like $8 fluff stuffy-in-there stuff.

Crazy people, $20, hah!

Cut the sleeve off a large sweater or a leg off a pair of pants. Cut a slit like so
.....................~~~~~~~~~~
Cut here ----> -- S L E E V E -- <-----and here
.....................~~~~~~~~~~
and tie the ends closed. Fill with popcorn, beans, rice etc so that it has some weight to keep it in place.

No sewing required.

Thanks for the neat idea! All that typing and the diagram definately deserves some reps!

This IS an awesome idea... I just wanted to add one little tip to it: unless you plan to toss this and make a new one every time, you should probably a) using something non-absorbing as the filler (like pea gravel, marbles, etc.) or b) put the filler materials in one or more ziploc bags. If air is getting in around your doors, it's likely that moisture is too, and with loose beans, rice, etc. in there, you could end up with a smelly, moldy mess! Plus, having your stuffing materials contained that way will make it possible to take the sleeve or pant leg off and wash it if/when needed!

HTH, and thanks Cynthiabutterfly, for the GREAT idea!!
