While you're checking out the cost of running that gasline to where you need it, don't forget to calculate the savings of using gas over electric as an offset. Gas cooking is not only far better (imo) but it's much more economical.

I've used both gas and electric. After the last house with electric, I swore I would never again settle for electric cooking - might as well cook over a campfire (actually, those are usually better!)

We put in a new gas stove last year. The old one was, well, really old. It had been in the house since it was built in the 70's! Now I have a timer and "sealed" burners!!

I LOVE GAS appliances! Our new one is so much more efficient. The oven does "cook" hotter, but we just adjust cooking temps by about 5-10 degrees. We installed the stove ourselves. We also installed our gas water heater a few years ago. We have gas everything, so when the power goes out, we can take hot showers and cook on the stove top by manually lighting the burners. (The oven has a safety mechanism that keeps it from being used without power.)

We bought our stove from HD to get the incentives also. We had delivery (then got the rebate), but we installed it ourselves. If we ever move, I will make sure to always have gas appliances, etc. Even if it means installing a gas/propane tank!

I DID IT!!! Sorry, I'm so excited that I had to shout. It was a little more than what I posted here but I took Bzybee's advice and bought the new hoses, cords, etc. and also paid to have THEM install (DH will be thrilled). My total out the door was $2051.48, $55 is delivery (refundable by rebate), which I knew about but did not count in my calculations here since I knew it was FAR, I just didn't know what it cost. So after deducting that, it was $1996.48 and I have $375 in rebates coming ($100 cash from GE, the rest is HD gift cards, but we're still finishing the basement, so we'll use them). So if I deduct rebates, I spent $1621.48. I still have one more plumber to get a bid from, but I do have to pay to get the gas line run, and it looks like that will be in the $300s.

Also, as a totally unexpected bonus, when I was at Sears researching the pricematching, they had the over the range microwave that is also a white GE Profile, so it goes with this set, normally $599, one open box scratch and dentone for $319 (the top is slightly dented, will not show at all when installed), and it bumps my GE rebate from $100 for 2 appliances to $200 for 3 appliances, so basically it is costing me $219!

So now I have a complete set of nice, matching GE appliances and all but the fridge is GE Profile (it is a white GE side by side with water, ice, etc. so still pretty nice, good enough for me). I'm going to have nice appliances in my kitchen for the first time in my life, I'm SOOOOOOOOOO excited.

Congrats! We also have the GE Profile stove and I love it. I was raised cooking on gas, and when I moved out on my own, all of the apts I lived in had crappy electric stoves. I HATED it! I can't tell you how many things I burned, LOL. I think you'll really like this stove. The cooktop is really easy to clean, even if you get a spill that cooks on. I've also been happy with the oven, though I also tend to check things a little earlier than a recipe says to. DH installed it for us, and it was a snap (but we didn't have to add a gas line). You won't regret it!
