| Weirdest home decorating item that you have seen? I don't know WHAT made me think of this, but today I remembered something.
The strangest thing I saw was when I lived in England. SOOOO many houses had what is known as "wood chip wallpaper". It is literally 2 pieces of a sort of rice paper with wood chips sandwiched in between. It is put up, and then painted over.
Now, I understand the concept. Really. The walls in many homes in the UK are very uneven, and the wood chip texture helps to hide the lumps and bumps. But this stuff is everywhere, and it's a bear to get off the walls. And it looks terrible.
What's the oddest thing you have run across on the home-decorating front?

| Re: Weirdest home decorating item that you have seen? omg!! i despise carpet in the kitchen!!!! its really bad with kids---not so bad if your not a klutz, but with 2 kids, a baby(sometimes), a dog and 3 cats underfoot, well yeah ima klutz.....thankfully i have linoleum(that needs to be mopped today)
*oddest* my step-dads mom, has a furniture obsession, but she wont get rid of any of it!!! so walking threw her house is a labryinth with all the tables, couches, end tables, floor lamps, dressers, china hutches, chairs and what not......i remember PLENTY of stubbed toes while visiting
odd----my step mom who has a nordictrac(one of those running/walking things) that is used for clothes.....yet she uses jenny craig instead
outside odd---this house in the seattle area i remember from when i was younger~~ was fuschia, lime green, neon orange, bright purple and blue---thats how i knew we were almost at my stepdads moms!
inside odd~~~i have bamboo and some other plant clippings living in my fishtank with no fish (the fishies live in the big tank on the counter) while i personally dont think its odd, but i forget to water plants so this ensures they always have water ~~~and they grow JUST FINE and are pretty and really green
i actually dont mind the re-usable stuff (bathtubs, bed frames, tires) being used for plants....but i think i draw the line at a toilet...............the daycare i worked at, one of my summer projects with the kids was to plant flowers and guess what we used? the tub from the remodeling of the house the day care was in! |

When I was a child one of my neighbors had a bathtub standing up in their yard with a statue of the Virgin Mary in it. Since my parents were Atheists, I had no idea what the deal was with the statue but I figured it was a religious thing and thought maybe she was the goddess of cleanliness...Yeah I was a pretty confused kid.
(PS: I mean no disrespect to anyone who is Catholic, these were just the thoughts of a confused child.)

| Re: Weirdest home decorating item that you have seen? OK, I am not a fan of the bathroom fixtures in the garden, but I MIGHT see it if it were one of the fancy old claw foot bathtubs. Maybe.
I have, however, seen plain old square bathtubs in gardens, and that's just wrong.

| Re: Weirdest home decorating item that you have seen? I'd have thought this a one time thing, but I've seen it in two different houses, of unrelated families.
People who cut a picture of themselves out and paste it to a group picture to make it look like they were there.
Like the family reunion group picture hanging on the wall, and if you get within 5 feet you can see Aunt Ida wasn't really in it. Her picture has been pasted in someplace.
Not photoshop, actual cut and paste of photos.
I'm all for playing with photos for kicks, but to hang it on your wall along with all the other family photos?
Weird.
