I love really love fall colors. My living room is a burnt orange. With a shade or 2 lighter "sponged" over it. It gives it an old look without looking like it needs fixing.
Maybe you can lessen the poop color with a lighter shade over it. HTH

Ok, so we've been doing lots of work to our house (DH is doing most of it himself because he doesn't trust anyone else to do it the right way). Right now he's trying to finish our living room. When we first moved in we picked the Craftsman Bungalow colors (craft white, bungalow gold, and amber yellow). We put the amber yellow on the ceiling and the bungalow gold on the walls. Well, the gold, after you texture your walls, looks like dark yellow baby poop. I want a different color but getting my DH to agree on the color is going to be tough). I'm sure I'll just end up telling him to do "whatever" and he'll put up the ugly baby poop. Any suggestions on what color to paint the walls. The room is kinda dark so I didn't want a dark color. And, the yellow will stay on the ceiling.

Get a small piece of sheetrock (or what ever your walls are made out of) and recreate your wall on the small board. Then apply different types of techniques (sp) and see what you like best.
There is sponging, ragging, glazing, etc.

Why not go with a 'beach' look and do a light aqua color on the walls? I think the yellow on the ceilings will bounce back from the walls and it will look amazing. You could accessorize with a small amount of shells in different areas and get some coral accent pillows or something like that. I think a combination of aqua/coral/yellow will look really nice.
Of course, if you don't like the beach look, you could always get some more of the same ceiling yellow color and paint the walls that color, then do the trim in the white, and if you don't already have it, add some white crown molding to the entire room. If you have any bookshelves, you could add some crown molding to the tops of the bookshelves to make them look more like custom pieces, then paint them the same white as the trim, or you could do a shabby chic look on them.

If you're a scrapbooker, try putting up different colors of cardstock. That's how I picked out room colors. I was amazed at how many of the taupe colors looked pink and the yellows looked "poopy"! Took the one I liked to Home Depot, did the color match on the machine and got exactly what I wanted.
See if you can get the paint remixed a lighter or more orange shade.

These are all great ideas. I put a shade or two lighter over the darker color on a test wall. I mixed the lighter color paint with water because I saw that on some show and they said it was easier to work with. I still didn't like it. The trick will be getting a color DH likes as well. And, he wants this done by Saturday.
I took luckimomma's advice and put up different colors of cardstock on the wall next to the ceiling. I had dark navy blue which I really liked but again dark; a light brown and a taupe color. I choose the taupe color because I thought it looked the best and lightened up the room. To my surprise, DH came home and saw the colors taped up. I told him why they were there and that I was having a hard time deciding (although I had already kinda picked the taupe). He liked the taupe as well without me saying a word. Now, we get to paint the living room, kitchen, hallway, and dining room/office area. And, I get a color that I actually like.
I just wanted to thank everyone again for all of their great ideas.
