Default Home improvements....

Quick question...this may already be posted but I'm pretty new so I thought I would ask again just incase it isn't. We just purchased a new home the beginning of the year and I was wondering if anyone takes advantage of claiming home improvements on your taxes...and if so...what kind of return did you get for what you claimed/deducted/however you word it! LOL

Default Re: Home improvements....

To my knowledge, home improvements per se are not tax deductible. However, some energy saving things are. For example, I got a small credit for the insulation we bought to insulate the basement, but the rest of the basement as well as the new stove and dishwasher I got are not deductible.

Also, some appliances, plumbing items, etc. have rebates available through local governments and utility companies. For example, my city gives a rebate on installing low flow toilets (as well as trees near the curb) and both my gas and electric company offer rebates on certain appliances.
