FAQ: What is a Home Mailer coupon?

Manufacturers and store chains want you to buy their products, and will often send coupons directly to you through the mail. Before you toss out your mail, skim through it, you might be surprised what you find!

Here are a few examples to get you started:

Free Samples

Manufacturers want you to sample their products...so that you will buy them! To encourage shoppers to head out to the store and buy their products after trying them, they will often include coupons




While you are signing up for samples and promotions, check the box to receive future promotions by mail. You may be surprised at what shows up periodically in your mailbox.

Gerber, Beechnut, Similac, Enfamil, and other manufacturers periodically mail coupons geared to your child’s changing stages of development. Eukanuba, Iams, Purina, Science Diet, and other puppy registrations result in periodic coupon mailings for pet food formulas supporting your dogs growth and development.

No matter your need, once manufacturers have your mailing information, and permission to send you promotions, they will. In order to receive these discounts, however, you must sign up to receive them.



Circulars and Flyers

Most people don’t like being on mailing lists for stores and products they are not familiar with, but before you discard that circular or flyer, take a few seconds to open it up. It may just be filled with incentives to change your mind! Bed Bath and Beyond, Office Depot, Staples, Petsmart, to name but a few, frequently mail out flyers with special offers and coupons.


Customer Loyalty Cards

If you thought the customer loyalty cards were just a means of tracking your purchases while allowing you to receive the sales prices, think again. Many stores tailor coupons at check out, and in the mail, to your specific shopping patterns. If you purchased dog food at one store for several weeks, but haven’t lately, your snail mail junk mail may include store coupons to reclaim your business.

Ok - I confess it - I'm new to couponing....at least in the fashion you guys are accustomed to. BUT - the good news: I'm learning!
But - I need help. Who are the different "home mailer coupon" groups & how do I get on the mailing lists?

For most of them just go to the website for that product and register with them. During the registration you will be asked if you want to receive their emails or mailed info, say yes to all of it.

Welcome to HCW! This is a great place to learn hard-core couponing! Overwhelming at first, but very exciting!

Most companies don't have "home mailing lists" these days. There are lots of e-mail lists, and most times the include links to printable coupons, so definitely sign up for these!

What I've been doing is writing to my favorite companies, complimenting a favorite product, and say I'd like to be put on their mailing list and receive any coupons they have available to send. 9 times out of 10 I get a response saying that they don't have a mailing list but will be happy to send me some coupons. There are some companies that won't send anything, but most will at least send some cents off coupons, and a few that will send a freebie coupon. Check the "Contacting Companies Database" for tips on those ones; there's a link in the Home Mailer Forum. It takes a little bit of time, but will be worth it when those envelopes start stacking up in your mailbox. And even the cents off coupons are usually better than the ones in the inserts.

P&G likes to mail out Qs, and you can go to, I think it is, PG Everyday Solutions and see what Qs they're offering. They also offer samples!! Always nice to get those in the mail, too!! ... and, sometimes the samples have Qs in them!!

If you are interested in samples (and the possible Qs sent with them), also, I believe you will find them under the "Show me the Deals" area ... if not, look in "Swinging Deals" and keep scrolling down until you see the board for (not sure if it's) Freebies/Samples!!

Hang in there! it gets easier! ... not to mention, when you come here (to HCW), you've got a lot of folks looking for the good deals and to catch ones you might miss!!
